LABORDAY Half Price Comics Sale Howdy! Chuck Conducting Silver Age Comics Auction Today's newsletter is going out a few hours later than usual, as I spent my morning conducting a really fun no-minimum-bid comics auction at our Jason St. Mega-Store. We had over 400 (mostly) Silver Age comics in the auction, which was our most successful in many years. What was especially pleasing to me was that we had a turnout of over 300 fans for this morning's event, which was the largest gathering that we've ever hosted at one of our stores without an actual comics guest also being in attendance. It is really nice to know that so many Denver-area fans will turn out on a holiday morning, just to have fun shopping for comics... While we had no guest for today's event, our next Mega-Store Open House party (on October 6th) will feature our good friend, TV's Incredible Hulk, Lou Ferrigno. Lou has been sharing our booth in San Diego for the past several years, and graciously accepted my invitation at this year's convention to come to Denver. Lou may be joined on October 6th by other celebrity guests from the world of comics and film, but that announcement is pending the outcome of some invitations that I need to send out tomorrow. Lou and Ashley In other news, our ongoing 50% off LABORDAY codeword has been generating an exceptionally vigorous online response, at least in part because Pam purchased two major collections during the past five days. The first was the massive 2,000+ BATMAN-related titles grouping that she picked up from a private collector on Wednesday, which was heavy in DETECTIVE, BRAVE AND BOLD, CATWOMAN, and BATGIRL, as well as a slew of hard-to-find BATMAN mini-series and one-shots. That great BATMAN collection was followed by a very large Marvel Silver Age comics collection on Friday, featuring inexpensive early (1963/1964) copies of titles such as AVENGERS, DAREDEVIL, FANTASTIC FOUR, STRANGE TALES, TALES OF SUSPENSE, TALES TO ASTONISH, THOR, and X-MEN. Fantastic Four #48 Speaking of our half price LABORDAY codeword, I did want to let you in on the fact that I have been finding thousands of other great back issue comics to offer you in the back of our Jason St. store. Just this weekend, for example, I set aside 23 long boxes for Pam's grading team to process this week, which is about 7,000 exceptional comics. At our present rate of sorting and grading, that is only about two days worth of production for Pam's team, so most of those newly-rediscovered comics should appear in our daily New-In-Stock links for you almost immediately. So you know, I am encouraging our inventory team members to try and get the comics that I found in Jason St. graded for you as quickly as possible, as our 50% off LABORDAY codeword sale will need to end soon. I realize that a codeword sale ending has not been such a big deal in the past, as we have had a very generous rotation of sales in effect for you for quite some time. That having been said, I am today letting you in on the fact that this may be the last exceptionally steep discount codeword sale that we host for a while. I can't go into any details at the moment, but I can let you know that I have an agreement in the works that may compel us to redirect the efforts of our inventory team for the next several months.
