Plot Synopsis: Spider-Man (1963) #44
"Where Crawls the Lizard!" is written by Stan Lee with art by John Romita, Sr. Our story begins in Grand Central Station, where Peter Parker is escorting his Aunt May onto the train she'll take for a much-needed vacation. Coincidentally, Dr. Curt Conners is also there to meet his wife and son who have traveled to New York City from Florida. Tragically, just as his family arrives, Conners transforms into the monstrous Lizard once more and flees into the train tunnels to avoid harming innocents.

As soon as he can change into Spider-Man, our hero gives chase but loses the scaly menace in the labyrinth of underground tunnels. Meanwhile, the Lizard realizes he'll never be able to realize his dream of creating a reptile kingdom on Earth until Spider-Man is dealt with. Deviously, the Lizard sets up a jewelry heist to make it look to the police and the public like Spider-Man committed the crime. And with the authorities on his tail, it's all old Webhead can do to rein in the Lizard without landing in jail. One dynamite battle scene later, the Lizard escapes, leaving Spidey with a broken arm. To add insult to injury, because of the fight, Pete loses his camera (his only means of making money) and a date with the ever-popular Mary Jane Watson!
