Howdy!
Today's
newsletter
is coming to you from London, where Nanette and I just enjoyed a wonderful relaxed day. We slept in this morning to compensate a little for the time change, and then had a delightful lunch at SAGAR near the Tottenham Court tube station, one of a chain of four vegetarian restaurants that serve food from Southern India.
I switched to an all-vegetarian diet over a year ago, so I am always pleased when I can find something (anything!) on a menu worth eating. In the case of SAGAR, their $10 lunch special is remarkably good, and yet also so filling that we were completely sated before we were even halfway through. I seldom take menus from restaurants, but SAGAR is just that good...
After lunch, we spent a very pleasant afternoon wandering the British Museum. They have recently redone some of their displays of incredibly rare European and Middle Eastern antiquities on the second floor, making the artifacts even easier to see and enjoy. With free admission, and a Starbucks right across the street, you simply can't ask for a nicer place to spend a relaxed afternoon in London.

While Nanette and I are settling down in London, our staff in Colorado are continuing to sort and grade all of the
comics
that I have purchased during the first 75 days of this year. Will told me that he just finished adding into inventory a
large number of religious comics
that I purchased on my last trip. I personally collect religious comics, as I want to eventually write a book about them, so several of my dealer friends on the East Coast keep an eye out for them for me. In this instance, I received one cool collection containing over one hundred
TREASURE CHEST,
CHRISTIAN SPIRE, and
CRUSADERS
issues, as well as a large number of more rare and obscure titles, such as
ORAL ROBERTS
comics. I am going to leave this entire collection on
our website
available for you to choose from for a week, and then pick out any that I need for my collection upon my return from England. The complete list of
links to this collection
is at the end of this newsletter.
Other major collections that I picked up (or that Pam purchased via
our online buying list)
that have just been graded include
CONAN,
AVENGERS,
GHOST RIDER,
CAPTAIN MARVEL,
CAPTAIN AMERICA,
DAREDEVIL,
ACTION COMICS,
ADVENTURE COMICS,
FANTASTIC FOUR,
STAR WARS (both
Marvel and
Dark Horse),
X-MEN (1963), and
SPIDER-MAN (1963).
Just under 11,000 comics have been graded during just the past two days, so our
NEW-IN-STOCK and
PREMIUM NEW-IN-STOCK
listings are already excellent for this week.
In other news, I did want to point out to everyone that I had my Denver assistant, Will Moulton, put all of our
trade paperbacks and hardbacks
on sale for you this morning. Effective immediately, all of our
Marvel and
DC
trade paperbacks are discounted for you by a full 40%-60% off right on
our website,
and all of our other trade paperbacks, and all of our hardbacks, are discounted by 30%-60% off. This once-a-month
book sale
will last only through next Monday morning, so if you want to build your library at a substantial savings, this is the time of month to make your book purchases from us. We have approximately 300,000 books in stock right now, with nearly 100,000 books from all publishers discounted at rates above the minimum. Several
new book collections
were also just recently added to
our website,
so our book selection is even larger for you than in past months.
My final item for today is a quick reminder that Ashley and I will be heading to
MegaCon
in Orlando next week. In point of fact, I arrive home from England at midnight on Wednesday, and then turn right around and leave for Orlando at 9 AM on Thursday. I may just end up staying that night at a cheap motel at the Denver airport, as the one-hour drive to (and from) our farm in Boulder may end up not being worth the effort. I did also want to mention that the wonderful
PLANETCOMICON
will be held in Kansas City (Overland Park) on the same weekend as MegaCon. I hate it when that kind of double-scheduling occurs, as it means that I end up having to choose which one of my two favorite shows to skip. In this instance, I chose Orlando over Kansas City, but only because I can also visit in Orlando with my friends Mike Kott and Sue Cornwall, of the world-famous
Intergalactic Trading Co.
It still peeves me, however, that I have to miss Kansas City, as show organizer Chris Jackson has turned his show into a world-class event. If you attend either Orlando or Kansas City the weekend of the 25th, I am certain that you will be very pleased.
Happy collecting!
