Howdy!
Today is my last day at home, which actually has me rather excited. After spending over 150 out of 180 days on the road during the second half of 2010, I really did need a little break from my nearly non-stop traveling. Staying here in Boulder for the past four weeks has been remarkably refreshing, allowing me time in which to reconnect with not only the staff at
Mile High Comics,
but also my beloved wife, Nanette, my 4 daughters, and all of my friends. Being home also gave me time in which to sort and file some of the dozens of stacks of comics and other collectibles that I have picked up for my own collection during my road trips, rediscovering more than a few lost/misplaced treasures in the process. And, finally, I began the researching portion of my upcoming book on Avanyus, the sacred Pueblo Indian Gods of Rain and Lightning that are the basis for my body art.
All of the above having been said, I do have to admit to being a little conflicted, as it would be fun (as well as easy and quite comfortable...) for me to just stay home and keep on with my sorting of comics and researching my book. I refuse to fall prey to that cozy trap, however, as I am totally aware after my incredible successes of last fall that you can only be offered great
comics
deals if you are out there looking for them. At the same time, while staying at home all the time may seem risk-free, it is also a great way to get old. I've seen far too many of my compatriots in the comics field become totally averse to the rigors of traveling, which oftentimes led to a gradual calcification of not only their minds, but also their businesses.
My secret to staying young, and to keeping our business vital and growing, is to visit as many places around the country as I possibly can, and to be completely open to absorbing a wide variety of differing perspectives and new ideas about comics, and comics retailing. I strongly believe that it is my synthesis of those oftentimes widely differing worldviews that has helped to keep
Mile High Comics
vibrant. In a nutshell, that is why I am so excited about flying back to New Jersey tomorrow. I'm going to have fun!
Before I forget, I do want to encourage all of you who live in the NY/NJ area to try and come by and visit with Ashley and me at John Paul's wonderful little
East Hanover, New Jersey show
on this upcoming Sunday. If you've never been to one of John Paul's shows before, you're in for a treat. He has been putting on two hotel shows (Clifton and East Hanover) in New Jersey each month for well over a decade. The shows are quite small, with generally only 15-25 dealers, all of whom are incredibly friendly and eager to make sales. That means that there are
bargains
galore on great
back issue comics and magazines.
There are no events or panels, and oftentimes only one comics guest signing autographs, but that really doesn't matter as the action is all in the buying and selling of comics. I've been to over a dozen of John Paul's shows during the past four years, and I have to tell you with absolute certainty that I have never failed to have a great time, and also find some wonderful bargains. If you do come to this weekend's show, you might also get a chance to be among the first to see the color on my huge new Avanyu figure that I have tattooed on my back. I'll be spending about five hours getting the colors inked on Friday...
Moving on to our special promotion for the day, I decided to spice up the end of January by offering everyone who reads this
newsletter
the chance to win either a fantastic key issue, or a $500 shopping spree on
milehighcomics.com.
The deal is really simple: for every $20 order increment that you place with us over the next two weeks, you will be entered into a drawing. The winner of that drawing will get to choose between one of the seven key back issue comics listed below or a free $500 shopping spree, which can be used for any
back issue comic book or magazine
listed on
our website.
Second prize in the drawing will be a $200 shopping spree, also we will be picking 3 winners of $100 shopping sprees, and we will be picking 5 winners for $50.00 shopping spree. With 10 chances to win, your odds are really rather good! Especially if you place a larger order with us, or several smaller orders, as that will get you entered to win multiple times. The math is simple: a $100 order gets you entered five times (1 time for each $20s in your order).

The only real catch to this cool new promotion is that you have to ASK (!) to be entered in the drawing in the "notes" section of our order form. That's because I created this incredibly generous give-away promotion specifically as a "Thank You!" to everyone who has been reading this
newsletter.
That is why I am also going to allow one (and only one) entry for everyone reading this newsletter without your even having to place an order with us. Simply send an e-mail to
back_issue@milehighcomics.com,
and we'll enter your name in the drawing for the free back issue comics with absolutely no obligation. Please accept this gift with my sincere thanks for your kindness and support of
Mile High Comics.
I'll close out today's newsletter by reminding everyone that our unlimited free shipping program for all
back issue comics and magazine
orders is still in effect for anywhere in the world, and that we are still shipping
trade paperbacks and hardbacks
(except for oversize items) free to anywhere in the USA. I also had our

Golden Age and
Silver Age
back issue prices slashed for you on our website earlier this week to only 80% of our previous levels, specifically so that I would have a nice buying budget on our upcoming trip. With great discounts in effect right now right on
our website,
free shipping, and a chance to win a $500 shopping spree, today is a great day for you to place an order with
Mile High Comics!
Well, that's it for today. I now need to finish packing. I've already got that little tingling feeling that I get in the pit of my stomach just before I leave on a new journey...
