Free GREEN LANTERN Variant Edition Comic Book! Howdy! A slightly shorter newsletter today, as Ashley and I are needing to get set up this afternoon at the New York Comic-Con. I have to admit that I attend this convention with great hesitation, as it is the single most commercially-driven of all comics shows. That having been said, the management of the convention is quite professional, and as a direct result, it has grown to be the second-largest comics convention in the USA. At the same time, however, with the Teamsters Union controlling almost all the access to the Javitts Center, loading boxes of comics in and out is a nightmare. Our only free way to get boxes that we buy out of the building is to hand carry them down the escalators, which the union turns off at 5 PM on Sunday evening, just to make our lives a little more miserable. In all honesty, were it not for the fact that so many of my comic dealer friends from the East Coast attend this show, I would pass. Given that we do need to be at the show, we went ahead and traded for a little bit of exhibit space from our good friend, Patrick Sullivan. If you are attending the New York Comic-Con this weekend, please do look for us in Patrick's booth. So you know, we won't have too many comics to sell in our little space, as our primary purpose of being at the show is actually to buy collections (mostly at the end of the show...). I do anticipate picking up a couple of nice Silver Age collections at the beginning, however, so we should have a couple of hundred nice books on sale in our booth. My final item for today is a quick mention that we will be hosting a cool no-minimum-bid auction on Friday, October 28th, at our comics retail store on South Colorado Blvd., in Glendale, Colorado. The auction will begin at 6 PM, and should run until about 8. The really cool part about this auction is that I am encouraging people to come in the Halloween costumes! Come in costume, and you can purchase any trade paperback or hardback in our store for a full 60% off. We will have free refreshments, and we are also inviting all local creators to bring their comics and artwork for sale in a special "artist's alley" that we will be setting up in the store.
