All Comics Discounted - San Diego Report #1!

Howdy!

After an incredibly long and stressful day, we are finally back at our very comfortable room at the San Diego Howard Johnson's motel. Our journey began on Saturday morning in Boulder, as Ashley and I pulled out of our driveway for California. Ashley came in on Friday from Long Island, and we had a very nice dinner that evening with my wife, Nanette, and my daughter, Tanith. After a far too brief of a visit to our farm in Boulder, it was time for us to head our cargo van in the direction of San Diego. We caught up with Will, Steve, and Lynne in their two cargo vans just after Green River, Utah, and ended up caravanning with them into Las Vegas on Saturday evening. Our time in Sin City was spent primarily walking around and viewing the sights, and then riding the very fast and dynamic roller coaster located in the New York, New York casino. It rocks!

On Sunday morning we headed for San Diego, but with a quick stop so that we could ride the immense Desperado roller coaster at the Nevada/California state line. Sadly, that beast didn't open for business until an hour after we needed to leave. We are definitely going to ride it at least once, however, on the way home. It still is (I think...) the highest roller coaster in the world, and hits 97 MPH at the bottom of the first drop, which is insanely fast. It then goes into an immediate barrel roll, which is where I was injured (by wrenching my back while holding my arms in the air) during the last time at I rode this dangerous machine with Tanith, ten years ago. Regardless of the risk, this is a fun, fun ride!

Speaking of risks and fun rides, we were being filmed most of Sunday afternoon, and all of today (Monday) by the documentary makers of COMIC-CON EPISODE FOUR: A FAN'S HOPE. I am absolutely certain at this point that a great deal of Ashley and my footage is going to be included in the final cut of the film, as we have been allowing them to document a great many of the more outrageous interactions in which we engage on a regular basis. While all of what we do is essentially harmless, I am well aware that we live far beyond the boundaries of what some people consider to be acceptable. As I clearly articulate on film, however, I chose to sell comics as my life's work primarily because this is a world in which there is a great deal more personal freedom to be exactly who you want to be than in more traditional vocations. That having been said, I think that more than a few people who will be eventually watching this film will be shocked by our oftentimes ribald lifestyle. While that will certainly cause some measure of negative reactions, I think that even more viewers will be madly envious of our freedom to do whatever we want, whenever we want, and our absolute willingness to be wild and crazy together. What really matters, however, is that I genuinely believe that after folks have seen the documentary, that Ashley and I will (for good, or for bad...) forever stick in many people's minds. If for no other reason, than we are just having so darn much fun...

Moving on to more serious thoughts, all of our preparations for the convention went fantastically well today. Our 20,000 lbs of freight all arrived safe and sound, and we were able to get it unloaded at the convention center in record time. Tomorrow will be spent assembling our 7 booth display of trade paperbacks and hardbacks, which is going to be one huge undertaking. I will try and have photos for you in Wednesday's newsletter.

In the meantime, our ongoing 40% off SANDIEGO codeword is still in effect for you on all of our back issue comics and magazines, as is the very steep discounting of our base prices that we put into effect directly on our website (please keep in mind the codeword does not apply to new comics, Dallas Stephens comics, trade paperbacks, hard covers, graphic novels, statues, or supplies). I need to point out, however, that even though it has yet to begin, there are only seven days until the San Diego convention is over! Suffice it to say, I highly encourage you to take advantage as quickly as you can of the great discounts that we have in effect for you right now.

My final comment for today is that you really should keep a sharp eye on our New-In-Stock and Premium New-In-stock listings during this week, as Pam finally has time now to really focus on adding into our online inventory all those tens of thousands of comics that Ashley and I purchased during our journeys of May, June, and July. There are going to be some exceptionally nice back issue comics coming up, most of which will be great bargains if you utilize the SANDIEGO codeword to save an additional 40% off. 'nuff said.

Happy Collecting!
