$5 Book Sale Extended Two Days!
Howdy!
It's a far more typical winter morning her in Colorado today, with gray skies and a brisk, chill wind. I don't really care about the outside weather all that much, however, as I am having a delightful time these days working on researching the prehistoric origins of Avanyus (Pueblo Indian gods of rain and lightning) utilizing my extensive library of over 500 reference books on the subject. I am also sorting about 10,000 incomplete and/or coverless
Golden Age and
Silver Age
comics out by publisher. We accumulated this huge array of incomplete pre-1975 comics over many years, and it has long been my desire to take a few days and to turn that mass of completely randomized boxes of old comics into a alpha-numerical system.

Working in my comics vault until 9 PM last evening, I managed to get about half of our incomplete comics sorted out, at least by publisher. In doing so I discovered that we have stashed away copies of such gems as
FANTASTIC FOUR #2,
SPIDER-MAN (1963) #3,
FLASH #105,
HULK #181, and
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (1960) #1,
just to name a few of the more noteworthy issues. It may be forever and a day before some compatible damaged issues arrive that allow us to "marry" two of those incomplete issues together in order to create one nice copy, but I can wait. Just the thought that we have all of our pieces and parts in order will give me far more incentive to purchase additional damaged lots when they are offered to me at conventions. We clearly can't sell these restored issues for all that much, as they would typically grade out no higher than VG, but it does warm the heart of the collector in me to be saving these wonderful old comics from the trash heap. Besides, I do just like looking at these great old books while I am sorting. Given that I've owned whole copies of almost all of them in the past, it's just like visiting old friends...
While I am working assiduously to just keep out of everyone's way at the warehouse, William has our fulfillment crew blazing on filling all of the orders that we received over this past weekend. Our huge
$5 and
$10
end-of-the-year book sale produced such an amazing rush of orders that William estimates that it will take until the end of the week for us to ship them all, even with several staff members shifted over from Pam's inventory team. Hundreds of packages are leaving our warehouse each day, however, so if you give us just a little extra time, we'll get your order shipped to you.
As an aside, if our business keeps up at it's present pace, I am clearly going to have to do something to augment our staffing even further, as I really do also want to get more comics sorted out from my recent buying trips. While Pam's sorting team was managing to keep a steady 25,000 comics, magazines, trade paperbacks, and hardbacks flowing into
our online offerings
each and every week, I was still buying comics faster than they could sort them. In great measure that's why I am killing a little time here in Colorado right now, instead of already heading out on the road to buy even more comics. I counted on Monday, and I can tell you definitively that we have about 300,000 comics that I recently purchased already sitting on shipping pallets in the aisles of our main warehouse. The good news from this huge backlog is that it absolutely guarantees that our
New-In-Stock and
Premium New-In-Stock
listings are going to be great for you each and every day for the foreseeable future. To illustrate what I mean by this, I am asking Lynne to include the entire listing of our
Tuesday Premium New-In-Stock
for you at the end of this newsletter. The breadth of offerings will speak for themselves...
On a related topic, while I am not out buying comics right now, Pam is still very actively seeking to buy private collections. If you know of anyone who might be interested in selling their comics, magazines, or trade paperback and hardback book library right now, have them write to Pam Brandle at
Pam@milehighcomics.com,
or call her (weekdays 9-5) at 303-455-2659. Pam has authority to pay for all but the very largest deals on the spot, and has not turned down a single collection for lack of buying funds in the entire 18 months since we restarted our online buying program. Just check out
our online buying prices,
and I think that you will immediately see that we pay very fair percentages of our selling prices, especially when our very generous codeword discounts are taken into account.
Speaking of our codewords, our annual 30% off HOLIDAY codeword will end on this upcoming Tuesday, at 11 AM Mountain Time. I will have another codeword sale for you at the beginning of February, but you need to know upfront that it will not be as generous as our once-a-year HOLIDAY sale. So, if you are seeking to fill some holes in your collection at our absolute best
bargain
prices, I highly encourage you to send a new order in to us right away. For what it's worth, I am also leaving our
$5 and
$10
trade paperbacks and hardbacks on sale for you through this upcoming Friday morning, at 11 AM Mountain Time. I am extending this book sale for two days past my original deadline because A) I forgot to put a specific ending time and date in Monday's
newsletter,
and B) one of our landlords offered us a $1500 a month decrease in rent (can you believe it?) if we would pay them $6,000 by the beginning of next week. With some of the books in our incredible $5 sale listing for upwards of $50 each on
our website,
I have a pretty strong belief that an extra two days of leaving the $5 and $10 book sale in effect will generate total sales of just about that extra $6,000 that we need. I honestly sort of dislike giving up any more of those nice books for only $5 each, but if it will help to save us $18,000 over just the next twelve months, then I guess it's worth it. Please enjoy these last few days of the HOLIDAY codeword sale and
our $5 book sale
with my personal thanks for your continuing support of our efforts on your behalf.
Happy Collecting!
