Chad and Diane (click on image for larger view)

A very quick newsletter today, as I have to leave in a short time to return to the wilds of North Texas, in order to pick up my friend, Diane Corey. As I mentioned on Wednesday, I made a quick trip to the Dallas area at the crack of dawn on Friday in order to facilitate the first visit in over five years between Diane and her son, Chad. Chad lives in a very remote area near the Texas/Oklahoma border, about 20 miles up a series of dirt roads north of Whitesboro, Texas.
The area surrounding Chad's house is quite beautiful, but given that Diane cannot travel on her own, my actually driving her to directly to his house was the only realistic way for her to see him for Christmas. I'm a big fan of giving people whom I care about very much special holiday presents that exceed their wildest dreams, so making this 1,600 mile round trip was a way for me to bring Christmas joy and happiness to a friend who has been very kind to me over the years. It was a long drive, but seeing the joyous way that Diane and Chad hugged each other made those many hours of driving across the prairie completely worthwhile!
While Diane and Chad spent the entire weekend together, I drove on to Plano, where I was the guest of Chris Mettler, the owner of Madness Comics. I've now known Chris for several years, and I continue to be amazed a just how smart and clever he has been in building his store. I can tell you, completely without any reservations, that Madness Comics is now one of the finest comics, gaming, and toy stores in the entire world. Chris is not resting on his laurels,
either, as he already has a fantastic new store location leased across from his existing shop, which will double his floor area to nearly 5,000 square feet, while also providing copious amounts of free parking. If you ever visit the north Dallas area, you really do need to take the time to stop by Madness Comics. You'll be completely blown away! And please, tell them that Chuck sent you...
While my visit with Chris was great fun, the convention that I was planning to attend on Sunday was cancelled at the last minute. While this was a little annoying, it turned out that Chris, and two other Dallas-area comics dealers, had set aside over 7,000 back issues for me to buy! Because I was driving my wife, Nanette's, mini-van on this trip, I really was not shopping for bulk long boxes, as I just could not carry that much weight. What the guys put together for me, however, was a stunning selection of about 4,000 Silver Age and Bronze Age comics, and about 3,000 hard-to-find recent back issues of new comics published during the past two years.
Those two areas were exactly what I had intended to seek to purchase at the convention, so this Dallas trip ended up being a wonderful financial success, even though the con was cancelled. The one thing that I regret is that I asked those of you who live in the Dallas area to meet me at the show. In this instance, however, I did not know myself that the event was cancelled until we arrived at the hotel this morning. If you, too, made the trip to the hotel, I apologize for leading you astray. It has never before happened to me that a convention that I was planning to attend was cancelled without notice. Again, I apologize if I caused you any inconvenience.
Another bit of good news out of my Dallas visit is that while I was spending buckets of money down here buying great comics, orders were flooding in from all over the world for the
back issues
that we already have for sale on
our website.
As I genuinely expected, the 40% off CHRISTMAS codeword that I put into effect on Thursday drew an immediate and powerful response. I did not really push the point so much on Thursday, but the main reason that the CHRISTMAS codeword sale took off so quickly is that we made a point of already having our prices drastically slashed across-the-board on ALL of our back issue comics and magazines listed on our website. Since the 40% off CHRISTMAS codeword discount is in addition to the discounts already represented on our website, we now have (quite literally...) millions of
back issue comics and magazines on sale for you at $3 each, or less.
In point of act, we have many thousands upon thousands of comics available at a mere dollar each, which cost only a net 60 cents each after the 40% off CHRISTMAS codeword is applied. Comics prices just don't get any lower than that! Throw in free shipping for domestic orders over $50, and International orders over $125 (except for some small per item fees for really large orders to International locations...), and you have an opportunity today to receive a personal Christmas present from
Mile High Comics
that will bring great fun and joy to you during this holiday season. Please accept the incredible savings provided by the CHRISTMAS codeword with my personal thanks, and my best wishes that you experience a wonderful holiday season.
Happy Collecting!
