I've given this sale a great deal of thought over the past few days, as I really do want to make it a special event for all of you. That's far easier said than done, however, as I've had all manner of great sales over the past few months. What I really had to carefully consider was whether or not to create a HOLIDAY codeword sale that went beyond the bounds of anything that we have ever done before. Making this decision a bit more complicated for me was the fact that we've seen a significant rebound in our online comics sales during the past four weeks. The period from mid-October through mid-November was pretty dreadful, but since then we've quite regained our sales equilibrium. Our online sales during the first two weeks of December were so strong, in fact, that I think (I don't have the final results yet...) that our back issue comics and magazine sales were actually slightly above those of the same period in 2007. With that being the case, it would make the most sense for our company right now for me to initiate a HOLIDAY codeword sale with only moderately generous discounts, and to then simply coast into the end of the year. (please keep in mind the codeword does not apply to new comics, Dallas Stephens comics, trade paperbacks, hard covers, graphic novels, statues, or supplies) Well, upon reflection, I have decided to go a different route. One factor that I've observed quite vividly expressed in our recent surge in orders is that a great many of them have been coming from the same small group of ardent comics fans. While it has always been true that only a small percentage of those of you who read this newsletter actually place orders with us during any measurable period of time, that concentration of orders from a select few has become far more pronounced over the past few months. While I am absolutely and completely thankful to those of you who have stuck with us during these tough economic times, a core part of my inner nature wants me to also do some thing to reach out to the rest of you. That having been said, I have made the decision to make our HOLIDAY codeword sale a 60% off sale this year. That's a 60% off discount on top of the discounts already listed on our website. Simply put, we've never had a sale this generous in our entire 40-year history So you know, offering you 60% discounting from our already discounted website prices is more than a little bit insane. We will, flat out, see our inventories of great back issue comics and magazines greatly diminish as a result of this staggering discount. At the end of the day, however, no matter how many comics we do end up nearly giving away during this 60% off codeword sale, the truth of the matter is that we will end up 2008 with far more comics in stock than the number with which we began the year. Simply put, as a direct result of my having spent the better part of the early months of this year on the road scoring fantastic deals on old comics, 2008 has been the best year in our history as regards inventory growth. That being the case, we absolutely have sufficient comics in stock to handle the anticipated depletions that will probably result from our first-ever 60% off codeword sale. Aside from being able to absorb the losses, however, there is also a basic part of my nature that always wants to change the world to be a better place. I do not have the means by which to affect today's overall macro-economic climate, but in this one small instance, I can perhaps make the upcoming holidays just a little bit brighter for all of you who have chosen to be a part of the Mile High Comics family.
