Steep Discounts on ALL Back Issue Comics and Magazines!
Howdy!
Have you ever felt the calm before the storm? That moment when you know that the whole world is about to go crazy, and there is simply nothing that you can do about it? That's precisely how I feel right now, as we make our final preparations for tomorrow morning's departure for the
San Diego Comic-Con.
Our semi-trailer packed with 20,000 lbs. of trade paperbacks and hardbacks left for the convention late Wednesday afternoon. All that remains for us to do here is some prep work on the pine boards that we use to build our bookshelves (we sheath them in red vinyl...), and some last-minute pricing of the 2,000+ out-of-print graphic novels and comics reference books that will be traveling to the convention in our two rented cargo vans. Other than that, we're pretty much ready to go.
Except, and this is a really big "except," that we're still waiting for one last truckload to arrive. I ordered these books from Diamond well over two months ago, but they were simply unable to get the logistics accomplished to pull our order until Monday, of this week. I am genuinely grateful to Diamond (thanks Roger!), however, that they were able to get our order pulled at all, as this wonderful truck that is arriving today is filled with a huge number of the ultra-scarce
EC comics
reprints published during the 1980's and 1990's by Gemstone/Russ Cochran! Most of these EC comics have been out-of-print and unavailable for years, so I am absolutely certain that they will sell like hotcakes in San Diego. Especially the EC annuals, which had print runs so low that they are nearly impossible to find in the back issue market All of my plans for using these EC comics as the centerpiece of our San Diego display can only come to fruition, however, after we offload them from today's truck, and separate out the San Diego allotment.
Separating the San Diego EC's from those that we are reserving for all of you, is the critical task for today. Because I already know that they are in such high demand, I am actually reserving 80% of these scarce EC comics for those of you who
shop with us online.
As much as I would enjoy receiving the instant cash for these comics in San Diego, my long-term commitment is always dedicated to helping those of you who read this newsletter. That being the case, we'll take only 20% of this wonderful shipment of out-of-print-EC's with us to San Diego. I am very concerned, however, that we may sell out on some titles on Wednesday evening of the convention that being the case, just as soon as we can get the rest of the EC truckload inventoried, I'll be sending out a special e-mail this weekend offering you these great comics at insanely bargain prices. You will then have three days in which to buy as many of these EC's as you wish. If they sell as well as I think they will at the convention, however, my plan is to ship any remaining EC's in Denver as convention restock to our hotel in San Diego on Thursday morning, by two-day FedEx. Suffice it to say, I am really, really excited that we were able to score these great EC comics!
While the EC listing will be sent to you sometime tomorrow, I can offer you a special deal today on four hardback sets that originally published by
Another Rainbow
during the 1980's. Nanette and I personally collect these comics reprint sets, and have over 20 different sets on top of the headboard of our waterbed. We have many happy memories of our four young daughters (all of whom are now in their 20's) spending lazy summer afternoons propped up on pillows in our giant bed reading our EC, Uncle Scrooge, and Little Lulu, and Walt Disney's Comics and Stories reprints. Most of these book sets are now out-of-print, and now command prices of $400-$500 each in the secondary market, in those rare instances when you can find someone willing to let them go.
As it turned out, however, Russ Cochran still had a few Mint sets of the four titles listed below stashed in his forgotten warehouse in West Plains, Missouri. Because I was willing to buy an entire 2,000 lb. pallet of these books, I was able to negotiate a price that allows me to offer these four book sets to you at only $99 each, plus exact shipping! Most of these book sets are already on their way to the convention, however, so our supplies remaining in Denver are limited. Place your order right away! And please do bear in mind that these deluxe book sets are very large, and quite heavy. "Exact" shipping to US destinations could run as high as $20 per set, while distant International shipping might be as high as $60 per set. I obviously think that these books are well worth the price, however, as I paid significantly more than $99 per set many years ago to add these to my own personal collection...

My final item for today is a hearty "Thank You" to all of you who rushed to take advantage of
our new 20% off SANDIEGO codeword sale.
With our sales jumping by over 40% from the minute that the SANDIEGO sale went into effect, it is clearly evident that a great many of you were waiting for our annual SANDIEGO sale. For those of you who are among the thousands of new clients who have joined us during the past couple of months, a codeword sale is quite simple. The 20% codeword discount layers on top of the discounts that we already have listed on
our website.
If a given scarce comic book is already listed at 75% off, the addition of the 20% SANDIEGO discount has the net effect of dropping your cost on that issue to a mere 20% of our list price. If we priced our comics any cheaper, I might as well just dump them in our parking lot, and give them away...
In terms of function, you can gain the 20% off codeword benefit quite easily, by simply entering SANDIEGO into the "discount code" line provided on our online order form. Our computer then automatically applies your additional 20% discount to all qualifying back issues. That includes all eight million of our
Golden Age,
Silver Age,
Bronze Age, and
modern comics,
as well as all of our back issue magazines. Only new comics, trade paperbacks and hardbacks, and the Dallas Stephens consignment comics are excluded from the SANDIEGO sale. And, in case you are wondering, I created this annual tradition of our hosting a fantastic sale on our website during the San Diego convention specifically so that those of you who cannot attend the convention can have an opportunity to join in the fun from home (please keep in mind the codeword does not apply to graphic novels, statues, or supplies). Please do enjoy our new SANDIEGO sale with my personal compliments, and please do try to take some time today to read your comics!
Happy Collecting!
