DELL COMICS Sale - Plus Jim Shooter News!
Howdy!
After spending a wonderful day yesterday hanging out with my goodfriend, Jim Shooter, I am back on the comics buying trail. Ashley and I will start by unloading the 10,000+ back issues that we purchased at Michael Carbonaro's great one day convention in NYC on Saturday at the Hot Flips Comics Supplies warehouse. Hot Flips owners, Charles and Jeffrey Cerrito, not only allow us room to store our purchases, but also have been a great help to Ashley when I cannot be in this region. As a case in point, they included Ashley's inventory when loading their van with comics supplies for John Paul's Clifton, NJ show, two weekends ago. Ashley could have squeezed all 17 of those long boxes into her sexy Dodge Challenger, but then her mom could not have come along to experience her first comics convention. Thanks to the kindness of the Cerrito brothers, however, Ashley's mom now has a really good idea of what she's doing when she is helping me at shows. She had a great time!
After Mike's convention, we had a great group dinner across from the convention with Janet Jackson (better known as JayJay) and her partner Freddy. JayJay has worked with Jim Shooter for decades, having been his confidant and primary designer at Valiant, Defiant, and Broadway comics. She is now running her own independent company seriousdesign.com where she offers an array of stunning t-shirts. She is also preparing to operate a social network news service for Jim Shooter, so if you would like to be Jim's friend on FaceBook or receive his tweets, you should to send a request to Janet via Jayjayjackson.com.
After our New York dinner, I drove Ashley and her friend Christina(who helped our sales considerably at Mike's convention simply by being stunningly beautiful...) back to Long Island. Our good friend, comics retailer Patrick Sullivan, also came along after his parking company in Manhattan locked his van in for the night. I dropped Patrick off in NYC on Sunday morning, and then headed north to visit Jim Shooter.

Jim is now living in a wonderful little town north of New York City, where he is extremely well-liked by everyone. He is continuing to work on his Valiant revival titles for Dark Horse, as well as an array of independent writing projects. He had me come by his delightful apartment to meet his two great cats, and to help him to (somewhat) reduce his unbelievable mass of books and comics that he has accumulated during his nearly 50 years of being a comics legend. Jim has been my very good friend for nearly my entire adult life, so it was just a delight to be able to spend all of yesterday simply chatting with him in a local cafe.
Today we will first drive over to the Neat Stuff warehouse in New Jersey to check out a small Golden Age/Silver Age deal, and then drive to Wilmington, Delaware to visit Sarah and Titus at the Comic Book Shop. This part of our trip is really quite relaxing, as we will just be drinking coffee, picking comics, and enjoying great conversations with friends. Our next convention will be this upcoming Sunday, when we participate in Derek's wonderful little show in Essington, near the Philadelphia airport.
While Ashley and I have been having great adventures here in the New York area, our inventory teams in Denver are still blazing through the comics from my last couple of buying trips. I'm sure that it will interest at least a few readers that I managed to find an exceptional selection of old
Dell comics on my last buying trip, including very nice groupings of
TARZAN,
ZORRO,
and
DONALD DUCK Four Color issues. Those particular issues are listed for you at the end of this newsletter. But do bear in mind that those cool comics are just the tip of the iceberg as regards the
Golden Age and
Silver Age issues that we have been adding to the
website over the past week. Check out our
New-In-Stock and
Premium New-In-Stock
listings for a much larger listing of recent arrivals. With over 25,000
back issues
(both old, and very new) having been added to our
website inventory during just the past 5 working days, our overall
back issue
comics and magazine selection is growing for you every single day.
A couple of quick business notes before I go: first, I have decided to extend our current giveaway of ten shopping sprees on our website until March 9th. I was originally going to give away the $1,250.00 in prizes this week, but I have been remiss and failed to mention the giveaway program in my last several newsletters. So, in case you missed it, we are giving away ten prize packages as follows:
1st Prize - $500 Shopping Spree
2nd Prize - $200 Shopping Spree
3rd-5th Prizes - $100 Shopping Spree
6th-10th Prizes - $50 Shopping Spree
To enter this contest you may do so without any obligation (once only) by sending in your name to Byron at giveaway@milehighcomics.com. If you wish to be entered to win more than once, you qualify for one additional entry for each $20 in orders that you place with us from now, until 11 AM Mountain Time on March 9th. The key to this contest, however, is that I wish to limit it only to those fans who read this newsletter on a regular basis. So, please be sure and mention the contest in the "notes" section of our order form, so that Byron can know to enter your extra entry slips. If you missed the earlier announcements, and did place an order with us over the past couple of weeks that would have qualified you for additional entries, we will still allow you those extra entires if you write to Byron and ask. Please do send in at least your name to us, so that we can give you a chance to win one of these fun shopping sprees!
My final item for today is a quick reminder that our 20% off SWEETHEART codeword is still in effect for you. The SWEETHEART sake has proven to be one of our most popular codeword sales, ever, at least in part because the discounts already reflected on our website make our prices so darn low. When you add in the 20% off SWEETHEART savings, our website prices end up being exceptionally good for you. Please do enjoy our great new selection of comics and the codeword discounts with all of our thanks for your continuing support. We really do appreciate your helping us!
Happy collecting!!
