Support Your Local Comics Shop Today!

Howdy!

I want to make a brief plea to everyone today to go out during this holiday shopping season and support their local comic book store. As some of you are probably aware, all comics shops are locally owned small enterprises owned by individual families. That means that each of them is the sum of the hopes and dreams of a comics fan just like you. This includes Mile High Comics, which has been my own personal dream for the past 40 years. I have been more successful than most, but in the end analysis, I am just another Main Street retailer trying to survive in an Internet Age.

So you know, all comics shop owners willingly take on the risk each year of ordering incredible toys, comics, and books for you. This goes for Mile High Comics, as well as the 10+ other Independent comics shops in the Denver area. That having been said, the next three weeks are critical to us, so your support would be most appreciated. Simply put, your buying a friend a holiday gift from a Big Box retailer really means nothing, but buying a gift through your local comics shop will make someone's day a lot brighter. Please shop local, if you at all can!

I will close today's message with a brief story. I once owned an unbelievably beautiful comics shop just half a mile from Disneyland. It was over 10,000 square feet, and I spent a fortune of my own money stocking it full of great comics and collectibles. After I closed it, I had a fan approach me at the San Diego Comic Con to express bitter regret that our wonderful store was gone. He said he absolutely loved our store, and that he had just discovered that we were closed when he drove by our location, and found it empty.

This was one instance where I really had to bite my tongue, and not speak my mind. What this fan obviously did not know was that our beautiful store had been closed for THREE YEARS! If this fan "loved" us so much, then why do he not think to support us? Simply put, even the strongest and most beautiful living things on our planet will die if they are not nurtured by those who love them. Please support all the local stores that you love during this holiday season!

To quote Joni Mitchell:

"You don't know what you got, 'till it's gone..."

Happy Holidays!
