Free WOLVERINE Trade Paperback - $20,000 Silver Age Auction Howdy! As a member of the Marvel Comics retailer forum on Facebook, I am occasionally provided with early glimpses of particularly noteworthy Marvel projects. Today's treat was a first viewing of the new trailer for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, which I am allowed to share with you here: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Trailer In all honesty, I think that this new AVENGERS movie could be the highest-grossing Marvel film of all time. Not only does it feature almost every character from the Marvel cinematic universe (and an awesome villain in THANOS), but it also seems to convey the fun and lightness of spirit that made GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, DEADPOOL, and THOR: RAGNAROK so enjoyable. It will be officially releasing on May 4th, the day before The 2018 Free Comic Book Day celebrations. As of right now, I am expecting that annual event to contribute to May 5th, 2018 being the busiest day in the history of Mile High Comics. Woo! On a related note, I took my wife, Nanette, to see THOR: RAGNAROK on Sunday. While I greatly enjoyed the THOR movie, what really bowled me over was the incredibly dynamic trailer for BLACK PANTHER (releasing 2/16), and a glimpse of the very quirky take on NEW MUTANTS (releasing 4/13). The combined effect of STAR WARS (12/15), AVENGERS, NEW MUTANTS, and BLACK PANTHER gives Marvel four major releases over just the next six months. This should truly be an amazing period for comics... BLACK PANTHER #1 All of the above having been said, one factor that I did want to point out today was the creeping erosion in our available inventories of comics related to major films. Over the past few weeks, for example, we have seen quite a substantial revival in orders for all manner of STAR WARS back issues, both from Marvel and from Dark Horse. Our NEW MUTANTS back issue sales have also jumped up vigorously, and we just can't keep early issues of BLACK PANTHER or JUNGLE ACTION in stock. JUNGLE ACTION #16 So you know, some of these nice back issues that we are selling are going directly to fans to add to their collections, but others are being purchased by speculators who hope to resell them at higher prices at a later date. We do not mind either way, as we are grateful for any and all support, but I did want to make note that we always see an uptick in what appear to be speculator purchases during our most generous codeword sales, such as this week's ongoing 50% off BLACKFRIDAY! codeword sale. Sadly, BLACKFRIDAY! will need to be ending early next week. SPIDER-MAN #38 Sign In other news, our third huge (28' tall by 20' wide) comic book cover banner, featuring Steve Ditko's awesome AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) #38 imagery, is being mounted on to the exterior wall of Jason St. today. In an attempt to spur our holiday sales at Jason St., we are temporarily mounting it on to the wall panel of our building that is closest to Interstate 70. We eventually planning for the cover to AVENGERS (1963) #4 to be mounted in that extremely high visibility spot (the Colorado Department of Transportation claims that 400,000 cars a day use I-70!), but we are at least a month away from being able to afford the $4,000 needed for that next banner. In case you are wondering, my comic book cover project will eventually wrap our entire building with 18 awesome banners... SPIDER-MAN #38 Sign from I-70 Another effort that we are undertaking to spur our holiday sales is to host an incredible no-minimum-bid auction here at Jason St. on Saturday morning, beginning at 11:30 AM. Will Moulton searched our inventory for key issues where we had duplicates that we could afford to let go at bargain prices, and he came up with a staggering list of over $20,000.00 in retail back issues, including huge amounts of Silver Age.
