Our first major cold front hit Colorado yesterday, just as I was helping the volunteers at Jim Scharper's Feeding Denver's Hungry charity distribute cold weather survival kits to teens and the elderly living on Denver's streets. We did what we could, but we ran out of both food and warm weather clothing long before all the people in our long lines could receive assistance. Turning cold and hungry people away is a heartbreaking experience. That having been said, we did manage to help over 200 people, so our efforts were most certainly not in vain. My mood brightened considerably today, both because the sun returned, and also because we were able to fill three trucks with cases of food and drinks out at the Food Bank of the Rockies. Just as we were preparing to unload those five one-ton pallets on our loading dock, the amazing Peter Diaz showed up at Jason St. with an immense donation of clothes and food. The 5 huge black trash bags in the photo below are jammed full with all manner of sweaters, pants, shirts, etc. that Peter and his wife chose to contribute to the homeless community. We will be carefully doling those items out over the next couple of weeks to the kids dependent upon Urban Peak, and the elderly who take refuge in the St. Francis Center. We also owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who has purchased a $25 gift certificate from us this month. Thanks to your awesome support, we will be donating 64 shopping bags (!) filled with new hoodies, gloves, underwear, socks, and scarves to help the kids at Urban Peak. Even after paying for all that warm clothing, we still had enough left over to be able to make a cash contribution of $4,320.00 to ICRME Empress 43 Reynolds' SNOW BALL charities. With bitter cold weather now upon us, that extra money may mean the difference between life and death (or at least frostbite...) for many homeless teens in the Denver area. Thank you! In other news, Disney is starting to really push their new STAR WARS movie, ROGUE ONE. While other comics retailers have stepped away from the STAR WARS comics series, we have continued to publish a new Mile High Comics variant edition for every single issue. This is an unprecedented move by any comics retailer, and we are quite proud of the fact that we have now released a total of 33 STAR WARS variant editions. I have asked Chris to put together an array of all of our STAR WARS variants for you to see, including our rare VADER DOWN crossover series, and our entire set of STAR WARS: PRINCESS LEIA #1-#5.
