40,000 Comics Arrive - DEADPOOL,
X-MEN, BATMAN, SPIDER-MAN, More...

Howdy!

The weather is still being unkind to us here in Colorado, as a second wave of cold and snow hit us this morning. Temperatures are projected to be again near zero by this evening, with blowing and drifting snow, which is definitely unpleasant. Brightening our mood considerably, however, is the fact that a fantastic collection consisting of over 40,000 back issue comics was delivered to us yesterday, just in time for us to be able to work on it over the weekend. I cannot think of anything that makes me happier than being able to drink hot coffee in a snug and cozy environment, while sorting great comics!

Skids of Comics

The even better news is that our preliminary survey of this huge comics collection clearly shows that it is of far higher overall quality than we anticipated it to be. To explain, I was offered this deal on Tuesday with the provision that I purchase it immediately, sight unseen. That is typically a very risky proposition, as I have oftentimes been greatly disappointed in the past by collections that I have purchased without first examining them. In this instance, however, I figured that the worst that could happen is that we would break even, as the price per comic was low, and the shipping cost was nominal.

Ocean of Comics

The most important determining factor in my deciding to purchase this new collection, however, was that I thought that those 40,000 back issues would make a great addition to our new Ocean of Comics in our Jason St. Mega-Store. Our "Ocean" already contains approximately 200,000 carefully sorted back issues, but the thought of being able to instantly enhance our selection by 40,000 more comics was very appealing, especially since most of the comics in this collection were already in order.

At this point, I will digress for a moment to explain how our Jason St. Mega-Store Ocean of Comics has the potential to directly benefit you, no matter where you might live in the world. Simply put, we sometimes have errors occur in our inventory which create situations where we are out-of-stock on items that we showed as being available on our website (or on eBay). Those out-of-stocks irritate the heck out of me, and and I am sure that those of you who have been on the receiving end have been equally annoyed. That having been said, we are on a two-year quest to completely audit our entire 10 million comics inventory, one section at a time. We are currently about halfway done, and if all goes as planned, we will finish this huge inventory audit by the end of next year.

All of the above having been said, I am realistic enough about human frailty, however, to understand that no system as complex as ours can ever be completely devoid of errors. That is why I am building an immense inventory of back issues in the Jason St. Mega-Store that is completely disconnected from our online offerings. In effect, our Ocean of Comics acts as a strategic reserve to buffer our online clients from the annoyance of out-of-stocks. That decision is already bearing fruit, as we have experienced a 60% (!) decline in out-of-stock occurrences over the past five months, with that percentage trending higher almost every day as the "Ocean" quickly expands.

That having been said, the irony is that you will never actually know when we were only able to completely fill your online order by pulling some of your comics from the "Ocean." Suffice it to say, however, that we believe that our building our "Ocean of Comics" is equally important to those of you who shop with us online, as it is to those fans who frequent the Mega-Store in person. In a nutshell, that is why this collection of 40,000 back issues very much appealed to me, even though I had no inventory of its contents.

Returning to the subject of this new collection's contents, Will and Pam quickly breezed through 10,000 of the back issues on Friday afternoon, and found that darn near 20% of those high grade comics were very much needed for our website. Will ran upstairs and immediately graded and entered 250 issues before our six o'clock deadline, including a diverse stack of DEADPOOL back issues where we had absolutely no copies showing as available on the website. Those DEADPOOL back issues (plus quite a few other titles...) are already available to you in today's New-In-Stock update.

Will and Pam then both came in to work today (Saturday) in order to grade another 1,000 comics for you, including issues of X-MEN, SUPERMAN, AVENGERS, DAREDEVIL, IRON MAN, BATMAN, WONDER WOMAN, and many other titles. If our luck holds, those next 1,000 issues that they graded will show up on our website tomorrow (Sunday) at around noon Colorado time. You can then expect that at least another 1,000 issues will be added into every New-In-Stock update that we run for the next two weeks. Wahoo!

Amazing Spider-Man #9 Young Baby

Captain America & The Mighty Avengers #1 Young Baby

Harley Quinn Annual #1 Bombshell

I will close today's newsletter with a couple of free comics offers. First, we were delighted to receive two brand new Skottie Young Baby covers this week! Will Moulton managed to get us a few extra copies of both the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2014) #9 Young Baby cover and the CAPTAIN AMERICA & THE MIGHTY AVENGERS (2014) #1 Young Baby cover, so you can request either one for free for a $75 order, or both for free after placing a minimum $125 order. We also have a few free copies available of the HARLEY QUINN ANNUAL #1 Bombshell Variant. This issue has already blown up in the back issue market, however, so we have to ask for a minimum $100 order to qualify for a free copy. Place a minimum $200 order, and you can request all three of today's giveaways.

Happy Collecting!
