100,000+ Comics Half Price

Howdy!

At long last, the time for packing up our San Diego Comic-Con booth is upon us. Our semi-trailer full of 30,000 lbs of comics is scheduled to leave on Wednesday afternoon, so we will begin wrapping our bins next Tuesday. This is the single most comprehensive and ambitious display that we've ever taken to San Diego, so we expect to do quite a bit better at the show than last year, when we barely broke even.

As an aside, if we do not improve in sales over last year, then our unbroken 42-year history of exhibiting at that show will finally come to an end. I say that almost every year, but this year's booth is so well stocked with great comics that if it does not make us at least a little money, then I will have no choice but to admit that the comics retailing portion of San Diego is dead. As I repeated stated in Morgan Spurlock's Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope documentary about the convention, the San Diego Comic-Con has been increasingly co-opted by the major Hollywood studios and merchandising conglomerates. That leaves very little room for those of us comics fans and dealers who actually founded the show. That having been said, I am still optimistic enough to think that there is enough remaining interest in comics for us to make money this year. Our display really is great!

For those of you who cannot afford to go to San Diego, we are mounting a special San Diego display tomorrow and Sunday at our Jason St. Mega-Store. We have the entire San Diego booth built now in the back of Jason St., with over 100,000 (!) back issues stuffed into 43 overflowing bins. Members of our staff will be manning that booth all weekend, and will be there to help you to locate any older comics that you might be seeking. The bulk of the comics in the bins are from 1980-present, and darn near all of them will be priced for you at half of sticker price. Aside from those great 50% off saving being available to you, we also have thousands of back issues represented in the San Diego booth which are not presently available via our website, or in any other part of the Mega-Store. Stop on by Jason St. this weekend, and treat yourself to some fun!

I will close today's newsletter with a quick reminder that the San Diego booth must be completely packed up and ready to go by Wednesday afternoon. You have only four days left to shop through this incredibly great comics selection...

Happy Collecting!
