LOCAL NEWS - Star Wars Celebration! Howdy! I was blessed to be invited to a sneak preview of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR last evening. After a slow start (which consisted mostly of angry superheroes bickering over a new law...) the movie took off with the introduction of the new Spider-Man. He is awesome! I will only say that the fight scene that followed was, by itself, worth the price of admission. CAPTAIN AMERICA FREE COMIC BOOK DAY As has happened for the past several years, Marvel's new movie release is timed to coincide with this year's Free Comic Book Day. FCBD will be held this Saturday, starting at 8 AM at our Glendale location, and 9 AM at our Jason St. and Lakewood stores. We purchased 20,000+ of the 50 FCBD variants produced for this year to give away on Saturday, but if the advance order demand that we are already seeing from our online clients is any indication, we still did not order enough copies. Need I say more? Empress 43 Norrie Reynolds and Emperor 43 Manual Sexton I am posting all the details for this year's FCBD celebrations at Mile High Comics for you at the end of this newsletter, but before I go I need to quickly cover a couple more topics. First, Empress 43 Norrie Reynolds, and Emperor 43, Manny Sexton of the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire will be running a special booth in the back of the Jason St. Mega-Store on Saturday where you can pick up additional FCBD editions, or even request an entire set of all 50, in exchange for donations. They will also be hosting a benefit bake sale that day. BOOM STUDIOS 2016 SUMMER BLAST FCBD Based upon our initial commitments of volunteers from the ICRME, however, I am doubting that we will have enough baked goods, or enough people to effectively man the ICRME booth all day. If you could possibly bring in a baked goods contribution, or volunteer to help give out FCBD comics for a little while on Saturday, I promise you that Norrie and Manny would appreciate your help very much. Just show up on Saturday at Jason St., and seek me out. I will then introduce you to Norrie and Manny, and they will make sure you have fun! All of the donations received for the additional copies (and for the baked goods) will then go to the White Rose Scholarship Fund, which helps students of limited means stay in college or trade school. White Rose will be giving our $16,000 in scholarship grants in three weeks from last year's events... DOCTOR WHO: FOUR DOCTORS FREE COMIC BOOK DAY My final item for today is a plug for an awesome STAR WARS event that is happening tonight (Wednesday) at Jason St. If you have the time to stop by this evening, I promise that you will have fun! 501st Legion Here's the info on Star Wars Day: Join us Wednesday May 4 for an amazing Star Wars Day celebration! Mile High Comics will be open from 6-9pm for a special event to benefit the Make-A-Wish foundation. Join members of the Rebel Legion, 501st Legion, Mandalorian Mercs and Rocky Mountain Fan Force as we close out Star Wars Day with a blast. Take photos with members in costume or at the Green Screen Adventure, pick up some choice Star Wars comics and collectibles, hang out with your favorite characters or even look into how you could create your own costume.
