Free Comic Book Day Is This Saturday
Fonzie Will Appear

Howdy!

Our plans for this Saturday's Free Comic Book Day festivities are just about complete. As I mentioned last week, we are opening our Jason St. Mega-Store at 10 PM on Friday, and will be giving out FCBD editions promptly at Midnight. From 10 PM - Midnight the store will be open for you to be able to earn additional FCBD editions, with your receiving one additional coupon for each $10 that you spend with us that night. Henry Winkler has also tentatively agreed to offer autographs and photo ops for sale that evening beginning at 10 PM, but he will only stay all the way until midnight if he keeps making sales.

Buck Rogers

As regards our special FCBD sales, I am extremely conflicted about what to do about back issues. Most comics shops have a big back issue sale on FCBD, but with our already having slashed our back issue prices in half, I am very reluctant to go any further. That having been said, I have agreed to allow everyone who attends our Friday evening event at Jason St. to buy back issues at 60% (!) off. The only exceptions are blue stickered items (such as CGC-graded issues, variants, and new comics). That same amazing 60% off discount will be in effect on FCBD, but it will be an "Early Bird" sale, being available only from 8 AM until 10 AM.

Smurfs

We will also have a Buy One - Get One Free sale (on Friday evening and all day Saturday) on all of our trade paperbacks, graphic novels, and comics hardback editions. This huge book sale will be in effect at all of our stores. We will also allow a special 40% off FCBD discount on both days on all of our statues, action figures, toys, and t-shirts.

Fonzie - Henry Winkler

Finally, television and film star Henry Winkler will be in attendance at our Jason St. Mega-Store all day on Saturday. He is bringing all manner of cool memorabilia with him that he will autograph for a fee. He will also offer photo opportunities (also for a fee), so if you (or a family member) would love to own a personalized autograph of Fonzie, this Saturday is your best chance!

Happy Collecting!

P.S. Here are the details about how to earn FCBD editions from us. This is being repeated from last Friday's newsletter...

We have been deluged with requests for information about Free Comic Book Day, so I have a basic outline for you today. The first thing that you need to know is that we had to cut back on our orders for almost all of the individual FCBD issues this year. This reduction resulted from the facts that there are even more titles being offered this year (59), and because Marvel is releasing AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 in the same week. Our investment in ASM #1 was immense, so we just did not have the budget available to invest as heavily as in past years on the FCBD issues. We do still have over 10,000 FCBD comics to give away, but our quantities per issue are down a little bit this year.

Sherwood Texas & Boondock Saints

With somewhat fewer copies available of each FCBD issue, it is doubly important this year that you plan you strategies for FCBD very carefully. If I were you, I would start by attending our Friday night (May 2nd) 10 PM - 12:30 AM FCBD pre-release party. Our Jason Street Mega Store will be our only store hosting this pre-release party this year! At the stroke of midnight, we will be giving everyone who attends our pre-release party any three FCBD issues of their choice. In addition, our purchase coupons will also be honored at midnight, so it is actually conceivable that you could actually pick up an entire FCBD set at midnight, without even having to visit one of our stores on Saturday morning.

Courtney Crumrin

The next strategy that I would follow on FCBD would be to make a circuit among all four of our retail stores when they open at 8 AM on Saturday morning. At each of our stores that you visit, you earn the right to obtain three more free issues. Without spending a cent with us, that would allow you to obtain up to 12 more of the FCBD issues. Bring a friend or spouse, and you can double that number. The basic premise being that we want as many people as possible to visit our comics shops on FCBD, so we give away comics to everyone who attends, even if they have almost no previous comics experience.

Project Black Sky

Finally, we will be passing out tickets at all of our stores beginning today (!), that will entitle you to one additional FCBD issue for each $10 that you spend with us (either through our stores or through our online business) between today and FCBD. There is no limit to how many coupons that you can accumulate, but because of limited supplies on certain books, we will need to limit everyone to no more of three copies of the same issue. Aside from that one minor restriction, we are allowing everyone to accumulate as many FCBD editions as their $10 purchase coupons merit.

Kaboom Summer Blast

My final bit of news about FCBD is that Henry Winkler (best known as Fonzie from HAPPY DAYS) will be signing autographs and posing for photos with fans all day on FCBD at our Jason St. Mega-Store. I have no idea of what he charges, but he will have all sorts of options available for you, as he is bringing books, stills, posters, and other fun collectibles. He has also tentatively agreed to appear for two hours at the Jason St. pre-release party on Friday night. If you are among the 400 people who requested free tickets to see Mr. Winkler from Chris Boyd (Boyd@milehighcomics.com), we will contacting you early next week to confirm your specific time. We are asking Mr. Winkler to begin signing at Jason St. at 9 AM, on Saturday morning...
