Secret Wars is Coming - New Star Wars Variants

Howdy!

Excitement is starting to build here at Mile High Comics, as it is only 25 more days until the AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON movie officially releases, on April 30th. Based on all the fan enthusiasm that we are already observing, it would not surprise me at all if that upcoming blockbuster movie took in a billion dollars worldwide within just weeks of release.

Darth Vader #1 2nd Print

Thanks to very kind scheduling on part of Marvel Films, only two days after AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON releases is Free Comic Book Day 2015, one of the very busiest days of the year for all comics shops! Suffice it to say, the next few weeks are going to be a whole heck of a lot of fun for everyone who collects comics...

All of the above having been said, I have a few tips for everyone who shops with us. First, pick up whatever AVENGERS and AGE OF ULTRON comics that you can afford right now, before the existing supplies disappear. I mean no disrespect, but it never ceases to amaze me how some fans complain bitterly about "high" prices for certain back issues when they had plenty of advance warning that certain issues and/or characters were about to surge in popularity. Thanks to endless chatter on the Internet some Avengers, Ultron, and Thanos prices have already begun to rise substantially, but I believe that they may have quite a bit of room to rise even more.

Along those same lines, SECRET WARS (2015) has yet to move the needle very much on older issues, but that is an explosion that is just waiting to happen. Many older SECRET WARS crossovers were printed in much smaller number than the core series, so they may end being in very short supply. Also watch early appearances of Miles Morales, who may end up as the new Spider-Man in the movies.

Convergence #0

Moving on to DC, their new CONVERGENCE series has been far more popular than most comics retailers expected. DC's timing of releasing CONVERGENCE (2015) #0 last week was also excellent, as they grabbed the early momentum lead from Marvel. I still think that SECRET WARS will ultimately prevail, but DC is definitely benefiting from this new surge in comics interest.

Speaking of SECRET WARS, we still do not yet have any cover art, but I strongly encourage you to contact Greg or Mario in our new comics subscription department in order to set up your advance subscription to our upcoming series of Mile High Comics exclusive variant editions of SECRET WARS #1- #8. All eight of our covers are planned to be by Dale Keown, and are currently advance priced at only $19.95 each.

Darth Vader #2 2nd Print

Our SECRET WARS #1-#8 variants print runs are set at only 3,000 copies, which is the absolute minimum that Marvel will print. Over 300 sets are already committed, so don't be surprised if that pre-order price rises in the near future, probably right after we receive our first cover art. In all seriousness, I do personally think that this new SECRET WARS series is going to be a huge seller, which is precisely why I signed an $80,000 contract with Marvel. To reserve your set of our variants call Greg or Mario at 303-455-9321 (weekdays 9-5), or write to them at nice@milehighcomics.com

Moving on to back issue comic news, our 60% off STARWARS! codeword is still in effect for you on all of our back issue comics and magazines, excepting only new comics, a few variant editions, and our CGC-graded comics. This amazingly generous codeword sale is causing many long-time readers to revisit our website, and to place rather large orders with us for long runs of comics. At 60% off, however, even orders for hundreds of back issues tend to not add up to very much. It is amazing just how many of our cool older comics can be purchased from us right now at under $2 each ...

Star Wars #1 4th Print

Before I go, I did want to mention quickly that we have just received the following Star Wars variant editions. The print runs on the later printings are so low that they are oftentimes 1:30 -1:50 variants to their main series. We purchased very heavily on these later printing Star Wars variants, as we think that they are going to be very hard to find in the future. That typically means that they will rise in price...

P.S. I on a completely personal note (that is not at all related to comics), I was honored over this past weekend to be chosen to reign for the next twelve months as Prince Royale 42 of the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire. The ICRME is Colorado's oldest GLBTQ organization, with over 500 active and retired members. As Prince Royale, I am the directly under our new Emperor, Richard Brendlinger, and will be personally responsible for taking care of him when he travels to perform at out-of-town benefit shows. I will also be performing on stage (lip-synching popular songs) at some of those same out-of-town shows, including Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, and Colorado Springs, as well as performing at our weekly shows in Denver.

Emperor 42 Richard Brendlinger and Chuck

For those of you who have never heard of the Imperial Court System, it was set up in 1965 by Jose Sarria, a drag queen from San Francisco who in 1961 was the first openly gay person in America to run for public office. He set up the Court as a way for people who either perform in drag, or who just cross dress, to be able to meet legally and work together to raise money for charities. There are now over 70 Courts in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and we raise millions of dollars in contributions for each year for all types of charities including injured veterans, homeless teens, abused children, AIDS research, animal shelters, scholarships, and many more worthy causes.

Chuck and Emperor 41 Caeri Mancini

As regards my own involvement, soon after its founding the Court system opened up to a much broader community, inviting both lesbians and straight people to participate. I am what is referred to as an ally, which is a straight person who has no problem working together on good causes with people of all orientations and gender affiliations. While I have actively supported GLBTQ causes since my college days, I only became involved in the Court four years ago through my assistant Ashley. That having been said, I have to tell you that being a member of the ICRME has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Never, ever, have I meet such a wonderful group of caring, giving people. Suffice it to say, I am very much looking forward to working for the ICRME as Prince Royale over the next twelve months. It is an unbelievably cool honor to be chosen for this critical role role in such a positive organization.
