STAR WARS #4 Variant Cover
New KANAN: LAST PADAWAN #1 Title

Howdy!

After the trauma of last weekend's fatal car wreck at our Jason St. Mega-Store, things are starting to return to a bit more of a normal state here at Mile High Comics. Karen Lopez, the 17 year-old girl from Aurora, Colorado who cashed her car into our building at high speed at 2 AM on Sunday morning was eulogized at a Mass in her honor this morning, which was attended by over 100 of her friends and family members. I attended her services as well, but I just quietly sat in the back of the church and paid my respects silently. Karen's family did invite me to the reception that was being held for her in their home, but I gratefully declined their kind offer, as I believe that there are moments of profound grief that really should be shared only family members and very close friends.

So you know, I am working hard on the benefit auction for Karen's funeral expenses that we will hold at our Jason St. Mega-Store next Saturday, April 11th. We have had an outpouring of support on the local level, with the bank that holds our Jason St. mortgage committing to a cash donation this morning, and Steven Ault, the manager of a local ConocoPhillips distributorship, donating some gift cards. Our good friend, John Paul, who operates wonderful comics shows in New Jersey is sending us a box of donated items, and Cherry Emerson, who I've known since I was a freshman in college, is giving us part of her Star Wars toy collection to auction on Karen's behalf.

While all of the donations that I just mentioned will certainly help Karen's family, more are needed. As anyone who has had to foot the bill for a funeral well understands, there are far more cost involved than one realizes. Karen's family members are not well off, so I can assure you that the expenses that inevitably accompany this kind of tragedy add quite an extra sting. If you live in the Denver area, and wish to donate items for us to auction, please bring them by our Jason St. Mega-Store any day this week, or next. Cash donations can also be dropped off with us, or you can visit www.romerofuneralhome.com. There is not yet an account set up in Karen's name, but there will be soon.

I will close by mentioning that the Denver police were in the Mega-Store neighborhood yesterday looking for still photos and video surveillance tapes from neighboring business. In the absence of any other data, they really have no choice but to consider this to be a crime scene. If more concrete information about Karen's accident is released, I will let you know in my next newsletter.

Moving on to comics news, our 60% off STARWARS! codeword is still in effect for you on all of our back issue comics and magazines, excepting only new comics, a few variant editions, and our CGC-graded comics. This amazingly generous codeword sale is causing many long-time readers to revisit our website, and to place rather large orders with us for long runs of comics. At 60% off, however, even orders for hundreds of back issues tend to not add up to very much. It is amazing just how many of our cool older comics can be purchased from us right now at under $2 each...

Kanan: Last Padawan #1

As regards Star Wars, I am want to let you in on the fact that Marvel just today released, KANAN: LAST PADAWAN #1, the first installment of a spin-off series from the extremely popular STAR WARS REBELS animated show on Disney XD. Advance orders on this fourth new Star wars title from Marvel/LucasFilms had an initial order from retailers that was only a tiny fraction of STAR WARS (2015) #1. If ever there was a "sleeper" series, this is definitely it. We purchased over 1,000 copies for ourselves, as we think it will be a huge seller as a back issue. Especially as we get closer to December 18th, when Episode VII releases.

Star Wars (2015) #4 Mile High

In other Star Wars news, we were thrilled this morning to receive our cover layout for our exclusive Mile High Comics variant edition of STAR WARS (2015) #4. Featuring Han Solo and Chewbacca, this fourth installment (in our initial series of six variant covers) forms the bottom right corner of the single image that the incredibly talented Humberto Ramos designed for us. What I find very, very interesting is that this newest cover image confirms that the villains featured in the first three of our exclusive covers are firing in the same direction as the three sets of heroes, seemingly at a common foe. LucasFilms approved this artwork, so could this be a hint at a plot element? As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I would love to know the answer to this question.

If you would like to pre-order a copy of our STAR WARS (2015) #4, they are still available through Greg and Mario in our new comics subscription department at $24.95 each. Because over 20% of our print run is already committed, however, our price on our #4 variant will need to rise to $29.95 upon release. Our STAR WARS (2015) variants are also continuing to sell extremely well as back issues, with over 1,000 copies of each already committed. As a result, our STAR WARS (2015) #1 scheduled to rise to $59.95 next Monday. Never, ever, have I seen a series of brand new titles take off as quickly as these new Star Wars comics from Marvel/LucasFilms. I strongly urge you to fill in your Marvel Star Wars collection as soon as possible, while they are still somewhat affordable.

Happy collecting!
