In case you are wondering, I laboriously sorted out those 200 Underground Comix and comics fanzines from my personal collection to help me to cover my travel costs of attending a very high profile charity event in New York City on March 29th, called Night of a Thousand Gowns. Hosted by the Imperial Court of New York, NOTG raises upwards of one million dollars each year for charity. When I attended two years ago, the proceeds went to help homeless children and teens. This year our proceeds will benefit "God's Love We Do Deliver," a tri-state organization (with 8,000 volunteers) which brings warm meals to those bedridden by terminal illnesses.

Chuck at NOTG

While Mile High Comics as a company will cover my actual airfare to the event (I will be buying comics in New York and Pennsylvania for the company during the entire week prior to NOTG..) I want to cover my New York City hotel costs, and the event ticket costs, from the sale of items my own collection. That is precisely why tomorrow's auction features more cool and unique comics memorabilia than any other auction in our 44-year history. Suffice it to say, I have put together an amazing personal comics collection over the past 47 years, and these items I am auctioning to cover my travel costs tomorrow represent the best of the best. Need I say more?

My only other news item for today is to show you the preliminary cover to our upcoming Mile High Comics variant of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1. Our logo is not yet on this art, but I think that you can already see this historic #1 Spider-Man issue (featuring the return of Peter Parker) is going to be a hot seller. That having been said, we are still accepting pre-orders for our variant edition right now at $14.95, with a limit of five per client.

Amazing Spider-Man
#1 Mile High

So you know, we have that five copy limit in place because it looks like we are going to completely sell out of all the copies that I had slated to sell at the pre-order price level. Once those are gone, our post release price will be $24.95. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 releases on April 30th, which is the same day as the long-awaited new Spider-Man movie.

Happy Collecting!

P.S. I have asked Lynne reprint Wednesday's newsletter about Henry Winkler's upcoming appearance for you below. I am doing this because I want you to know that over 40% of the free tickets to this fun event were committed in the first 24 hours! If you would like to bring friends or family members to meet Mr. Winkler, I highly recommend that you write to boyd@milehighcomics.com (!) to reserve your free tickets. I may be able to get him to slightly extend the hours that he appears for us, but then again, he may have other commitments...

Autograph Party
Fonzie From Happy Days!

Howdy!

We just received a confirmation from renown TV and movie star, Henry Winkler, that he has agreed to be our guest of honor at our Jason St. Mega-Store on Free Comic Book Day, May 3rd. This signing may well turn out to be one of the most popular in our history, as Henry's iconic appearances as "Fonzie" on HAPPY DAYS spurred the creation of a very enthusiastic worldwide fan base.

Fonzie - Henry Winkler

In case you are wondering, I pursued Mr. Winkler as a guest after I met him at several comics shows, and found him to be remarkably gracious. After those very positive experiences, I thought that you might greatly enjoy meeting him, and might want to bring your friends and family to meet him, too. I chose FCBD as the date of his appearance at Jason St. because that once-a-year event is supposed to be all about bringing in new readers to the comics world. I will absolutely guarantee you that if we vigorously advertise in the Denver media that "Fonzie" will be signing autographs at our Jason St. Mega-Store, that we would draw in a huge crowd of people, most of whom would never have shopped with us before.

All of the above having been said, I did the math yesterday, and realized that if Mr. Winkler appears from 10 AM - 4 PM, there will only be time enough for about 500 fans meet him. Considering that our local newsletter (alone) has a reach of over 7,000 fans (most of whom live in the greater Denver region) we could easily have far too many people come to the signing than Mr. Winkler could meet. Over promoting actually almost happened to us on the same day last year, when the combination of Jim Shooter and Chris Claremont drew in well over 1,000 fans to Jason St. on FCBD.

My solution to this potential problem is to hold off on all advertising for now, and to instead give you first shot at up to six tickets per request of the 500 free tickets that we are going to print up for Mr. Winkler's appearance. You can reserve your free tickets right now by simply writing to us at boyd@milehighcomics.com. Our long-time staff member, Chris Boyd, is going to be handling all free ticket reservations for Mr. Winkler's appearance. Please note that each person attending, including children!, must have one of our free tickets. Anyone can came for Free Comic Book Day and get your free comics but to insure you can see Henry Winkler please get you free ticket request to Chris Boyd before they are gone.

The week before FCBD, Chris will be writing to everyone who reserves free tickets from us, just to make certain that you are still planning to come. If you then decide that you cannot attend Mr. Winkler's signing event, it is no big deal. I have a strong feeling that any free tickets relinquished in that last week, will be instantly recommitted...

Henry and Norrie

I will close today's newsletter with a photo of Mr. Winkler with my friend, Norrie Reynolds, at a special evening reception at the 2012 Big Apple Comics Convention. His charming smile proves his graciousness, as we had to ask Mr. Winkler to interrupt his dinner in order to snap this photo. We only asked because we had to leave right away, as we were representing the Denver Imperial Court (ICRME) that same evening at the world-famous Night of a Thousand Gowns charity event. So you know, Norrie later posted a copy of this photo on her Facebook page, and it instantly got an unprecedented number of "likes" from her friends, and also her co-workers. It may have been 40 years since HAPPY DAYS, but Henry Winkler clearly remains incredibly popular!

Happy Collecting!

P.S. I do not have any information at this time as to how much (if anything...) Henry charges for autographs, or for photo opportunities. I do know that he is bringing all sorts of signed memorabilia to sell, as well as the three children's books he has written. Whatever the case may be, all proceeds from the sale of his items will go directly to Henry to help cover the cost of his time and travel. I will provide you with more details about this fun signing, very soon.
