Howdy!

Pam Brandle
Head Buyer
I am once again writing to you from an airplane. Today, I am off to look at a large private comics collection in the Midwest. While I typically try to schedule my journeys around upcoming comics conventions, I do occasionally make private visits, if my work schedule permits. If you have a large collection that you might be interested in selling to us, please contact our head buyer, Pam Brandle, at 303-455-2659 (weekdays 9-5), or send her an e-mail to pamb@milehighcomics.com. Aside from helping me, Pam also buys dozens of smaller collections via the mail each week.

Pam can also arrange private side trips when I am visiting conventions. My next long trip begins at the end of next week (1/24) when I will be heading out for a two-week adventure along the upper East Coast. My first stop will be on Long Island, where Hot Flips Comics and Card Supplies is kind enough to let us store our convention gear in their Farmingdale warehouse. I will then visit John Paul's fun Meadowlands Secaucus Monthly Comic Book Expo show on that Sunday (1/27), followed by a journey up to the Boston area the entire following week.

The week after (Feb. 1-6), I may take a swing southward on I-95 through New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Northern Virginia, and DC. Or, as an alternative, I may take I-80 westward toward Ohio, stopping along the way in Punxsutawney, PA on Feb. 2nd to attend their wonderful annual Groundhog's Day festival. My final decision all depends on where I am offered the best comics deals. If you live along any of those routes, and have a collection you are interested in selling, please do contact Pam!

In other news, sales over this past weekend of our very limited variant cover edition of SAVAGE WOLVERINE #1 substantially exceeded our expectations. So much so, in fact, that ALL of our pre-release copies are now allocated. We do still have post-release copies available for sale on our website, but our asking prices are now going to start rising. If you have yet to order one of our exclusive SAVAGE WOLVERINE #1 variants with the great J.Scott Campbell cover, I strongly encourage you to do so. You might also quickly purchase a regular cover to SAVAGE WOLVERINE #1, as we tried to place a reorder with Diamond this morning, and received only received 75% of our request. That usually means that Marvel/Diamond has completely sold out. We're asking only $1 over cover price on the standard cover edition (which is the same as we ask on all new comics via our back issue service...), but if the skyrocketing back issue sales of SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1 are any indication, that price may change very soon.

On a related note, the unexpected restock that we received of the four cool variant cover editions of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700 is also rapidly melting away. We do still have copies left of each, but we cannot guarantee our current $25 price past Wednesday, at noon. Simply put, the market for all these recent Marvel variants is exceptionally strong right now, especially in online auctions...

While our sales of recent comics of all kinds are exceptional right now, I want to also mention that our traditional back issue demand is also growing. We are now having fans from all over the world order a very broad spectrum of older comics from us, ranging from issues published over the past few years, all the way back to the Golden Age (1933-1955) period.

I have to believe that the Internet is contributing to this renewed interest in older comics, as it is allowing a great many potential fans to sample vintage comics storylines, frequently at no cost. In effect, the Internet has become an incredibly large and diverse comic book spin rack for this millennium! We may have lost all that free exposure that spin racks used to provide to potential readers in our grocery stores, newsstand, and convenience stores, but the Internet now provides the same free exposure, but this time we are reaching the entire world! That being the case, I guess that it should come as no surprise that we are seeing more overall excitement and demand for back issue American comics right now than we have seen in a very long time...

I will close today's newsletter by mentioning that our annual 30% off HOLIDAY codeword sale is still in effect for you on all of our back issue comics and magazines, as well as all of our back list trade paperbacks and comics hardbacks. We typically end this seasonal event around January 10th, but I purchased 25,000 exceptionally nice comics during my trip to Dallas last weekend, and Pam's inventory crew is still adding those issues for you into our website inventory. As long as we are still grading the Texas comics, I will leave the 30% off HOLIDAY codeword in effect for you. Check out the New-In-Stock and Premium New-In-Stock links on our website each morning at 11 AM for the most recent additions from my Texas deals.

Happy Collecting!

P.S. I did also want to mention that I just read SULLIVAN'S SLUGGERS, by James Stokoe and Mark Andrew Smith, and insanely weird hardcover (in slipcase!) that details the astoundingly violent battle between a barnstorming team of washed up baseball players and a town of evil monsters.

Long past their former glory, the minor league Sluggers get an invitation to play a baseball game in a cursed small town. After the 7th inning stretch, the sun goes down, and the dysfunctional teammates find themselves fighting for their lives against a town of flesh-eating monsters!

Now, it's up to coach Casey Sullivan to help his team escape from being the next dish in the town's terrifying feeding frenzy!

Eisner & Harvey Award-winning graphic novel author Mark Andrew Smith joins forces with Eisner nominated illustrator James Stokoe for a gripping roller coaster of a graphic novel, packed with shocks, gore, and screamingly outrageous humor, when America's Favorite Past Time becomes one team's ultimate nightmare!
