Howdy!

We had an esteemed visitor from California this week at our Jason St. Mega-Store. Our having visitors in the largest comic book store in the world is not at all unusual, as we have had people from every state in the USA, and most other countries, stop by to shop with us. What made this week's visit by Dave Otterby so nice, however, is that he is great friends in Los Angeles with our daughter, Aleta, and her companion, Justin Bitton. Suffice it to say, being able to show Dave all the enhancements that we have made in Jason St. over the last few months, was a delight!

Speaking of Aleta, I did want to congratulate her for her recent promotion to Senior Producer on the TLC cable show WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? Aleta writes scripts and story outlines for this very engaging series about the surprising ancestry of well-known celebrities. Their 5th season is now airing, and with a sixth (hopefully) soon to follow. The show was nominated for an Emmy this year, and I would be surprised if they do not receive another nomination for season five. With solid backing and research help from Ancestry.com, Aleta's series is getting better all the time!

Returning to the topic of the Jason St. Mega-Store, I did want to again plug the two brief tours we filmed and posted to YouTube. Jason St. has already evolved even more, but those two tours give you a general sense of just how cool our giant store is becoming. And just so you know, building Jason St. is an absolute labor of love for me. Watching first-time visitors to our store stop in the doorway in sheer awe at the immensity of what we have built for comics fans, never tires. If you are ever near Denver, you MUST stop by and visit our amazing work-in-progress!

Ocean of Comics at Jason St. Mega-Store

In case you are wondering how Jason St. affects our online world, I have to emphasize that all the work that we are doing in building Jason St.'s gigantic "Ocean of Comics" has direct applicability to our website. The Ocean already contains over 250,000 back issue comics, all in a single alpha-numeric sequence. That is just the beginning, however, as we are currently filing ten additional long boxes of bagged and boarded back issue comics (2,500 individual issues!) into the Ocean each day. These comics are ones that were hand-picked by me during my numerous comics buying trips of the past four years, and include scarce and rare issues from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, IDW, Boom!, Valiant, Dell, Gold Key, Whitman, Charlton, Archie, and many, many more. Suffice it to say, the quality and diversity of our Ocean of Comics is growing by the day!

Ocean of Comics at Jason St. Mega-Store

What is critical about all this filing of back issues for those of you who shop with us online is that the Ocean was specifically designed to be our strategic reserve. Not one of the 250,000 comics that are currently filed in the Ocean is included as a part of our website inventory. Instead, they act as a back up system, allowing us to fill almost all of the out-of-stocks that crop up in our online orders. To illustrate what I mean, our Operations Vice President, William Murakami, is now able to fill 70%-80% of our missing issues each day, with that percentage steadily climbing daily as we file even more comics into the Ocean. Once all 500,000 of the comics from my buying trips that are currently in storage are combined into the Ocean, I expect that we will (quite literally) have no more out-of-stocks.

Statues and Skottie Young Variants

I'll stop writing now, as I am in the beginning stages of an immense project to analyze and revise every single inventory listing on our website. Based on the fact that our titles and issue numbers beginning with just the letter "A" took up 700+ printed pages (55 line items to a page...), I am estimating that I will have to analyze about 20,000 pages before my ridiculously immense task is completed. Wish me luck.
