by Fuqua & Parke Fifteen-year-old Maia Vitikos is told she's gifted - or cursed - with abilities frighteningly similar to those of the snake-haired Gorgons from her supposed country of origin, Greece. Stolen from, or given away by, her parents (she's not sure), Maia is adopted by a sideshow huckster named Rictus Finch who enslaves her. Called 'Medusa's Daughter' and thrown in with other 'eerie people,' she becomes the carnival's main attraction, drawing crowds as it travels from one small Eastern European town to another.
