Denver Police Homicide Detective "Win" Bear, investigating the murder of a state university physicist, first finds himself the target of the murderous Homeland Security Police, but then gets himself blown "sideways" in time. He finds himself in an alternate universe in which the Federal Government is almost extinct, humans have colonized the Moon and Ceres, apes and dolphins work and trade with humans, poverty is practically non-existent, and everyone carries a gun. But there's a snake in this garden, and he's working with agents of the Security Police from Win's world to import nuclear weapons into this world which had never seen them, and take over this wealthy civilization via threat of nuclear holocaust. Can Win and his newfound friends in this world stop this plot and save themselves?
