I want to start off today's newsletter by thanking all of you who placed orders with us during the past weekend. I knew that posting discounts of 66%-90% off on all of our
back issue comics and magazines
directly on to our website would have at least some measure of a positive effect, but during these tight economic times, I take nothing for granted. Blessedly, my slashing of our back issue prices encouraged a great many of you to place orders with us, with our sales of comics more than doubling over this past weekend. That wonderful outcome will mean a far happier and merrier Christmas for all of us in the Mile High Comics family.
For that I extend my personal thanks to everyone who was able to pitch in and help us. I also hope that those of you who ordered from us will be extremely pleased when you receive your purchases. With the amazingly low prices that we're offering right now, you were certainly able to obtain some exceptional back issue comics bargains when shopping with us. I believe that you absolutely deserve those great deals, and I genuinely hope that when our packages arrive to your homes, that they bring a warm smile to your face!
While our sales results for this past weekend were very gratifying, there are still 9 days to go in our fiscal 2008 year. That means that I have every encouragement to keep our prices extremely low for you at least through the end of the year. I also really do want to keep our current steep discounts in effect simply to keep comics collecting and/or reading as accessible and inexpensive for as many of you as I possibly can. I know from my own personal life that being able to spend a couple of hours each evening working on my comics collection can be a wonderful offset to the stresses of the day. I don't necessarily even reread my comics when I'm working on them (although I do take reading breaks occasionally...), but just spending time in my new library sorting them by publisher, bagging them, and placing them in alpha-numeric order brings me great pleasure.
As a case in point, I spent last evening emptying novels from three banks of shelves in my comics room so that I can spend tonight sorting out all of my newspaper strip reprint collections. I currently own in my personal collection well over 500 hardbacks, trade paperbacks, and pocketbook reprints of titles such as PEANUTS, LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE, BUCK ROGERS, TARZAN, PRINCE VALIANT, and FLASH GORDON, as well as scores of other titles. Having accumulated these books over many decades, however, they have been scattered in storage spots all over our farm. I cannot even begin to express to you how much of a delight it is for me to finally be able to view all of these books in one spot! Even better, once I have my newspaper reprint books in order, I can also see which ones from any given series that I am missing, and then begin my quest to fill in the missing books in my collection. Suffice it to say, I'm having a lot of fun!
Speaking of fun, I'll be heading into the office after I finish this newsletter, to continue my Herculean task of emptying the back shelves of our 56th Ave. warehouse. On Friday, I pulled yet another 30 boxes of books, magazines, and comics off of the shelves, sorted them, and sent them to be entered into
our online inventory.
If you keep an eye on our
New-In-Stock and
$50+ New-In-Stock
listings you will see a steady stream of rare back issue comics, out-of-print books, and unusual media material being added to our inventory each day from my sorting efforts. A great many of the items that I am finding in these "lost" boxes are one-of-a-kind, however, so if you see something you would like for your collection, don't hesitate!
Our biggest problem right now is that many of these cool items that I am finding are selling before we even have a chance to scan them, and to file them away...
Before I forget, I did want to remind everyone that all of our
trade paperbacks
are priced right now at 40% off. I've greatly expanded our inventory of scarce early printings of many trades over the past few weeks, but even those rare books are discounted for you by a full 40% off. Adding a trade book and/or hardback to your order for back issues can help you to more easily achieve our free shipping minimums of $50 for USA orders, and $125 for orders being delivered to International destinations (no express carriers).
Ironically, the very fact that all of our back issues are 66%-90% off right now actually makes it significantly harder for you to reach our free shipping minimums! That's where sometimes adding a couple of books into your comics order can be very helpful...
My final news item for today is to announce a special sale for all four of our Colorado retail stores on this upcoming Friday. Thanks to Christmas Eve being a new comics release day, our stores will not close early (as we typically do...) on Christmas Eve, but will instead be open their usual hours so that all of you who want to read your new comics over the Christmas holiday will have the best possible chance to do so. In addition, while our stores will be closed for the Christmas Holiday, all of our stores will open at 8 AM on Friday, December 26th.
As we did during Thanksgiving, we are going to host a special promotion that day, with all of our in-store trade paperbacks, toys, apparel, statues, and backlist cards at a full 50% off! Also replicating our post-Thanksgiving sale will be the fact that we are going to have two 75% off trade paperback bargains in each store (see the list below), and that we're going to also offer free to anyone who will visit any three of our stores on the 26th their choice of either the
FATHOM
trade paperback by Michael Turner, or a copy of
GROO THE ADVENTURER
by Sergio Aragones! A great many of you who shop at our stores here in Colorado will have Friday as a day off from work, so we want to give you every incentive to visit Mile High Comics!

PS: One small misconception that I sometimes hear is that our steep discount sales apply only on less popular titles. Nope, we would never do something like that. When I put our 66%-90% off sale in effect, I exempted only our new comics, and the Dallas Stephens consignment issues. ALL of the
back issue comics and magazines
from our popular titles (many of which are listed below...) are on sale for you right now at a minimum of 66% off, with a great many being offered to you at 70%-90% off. Please enjoy these
great bargains
with my personal thanks for you continued support of Mile High Comics!
