STAR WARS Comics Blowing Out!

Howdy!

I want to begin today by sincerely thanking everyone who placed an order with us during the FELICITY! sale. That very short term event (named after my new granddaughter) was so popular that we now have enough orders in our pipeline to easily keep us all busy through Christmas Eve. Thank you!

On a personal note, Nanette and I were blessed to be able to meet Felicity for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. She is just so amazingly beautiful, and also remarkably calm and content. I shared some money that we received from the FELICITY! codeword sale to help her parents, Tanith and Tim, to cover some of the inevitable unexpected costs, and I also bought them their family Christmas tree on Sunday morning. Being a grandpa is awesome!

In other news, we have been experiencing a very powerful surge in demand for back issue comics of all kinds, and also for out-of-print graphic novels, trade paperbacks, and comics hardbacks. We are not entirely sure about what is driving this robust demand, but it does seem to be in some measure driven by the relentless trend of the huge media companies to now adapt even the most obscure comics titles into streaming properties.

KANAN: LAST PADAWAN (STAR WARS) (2015) #1

To cite just one example, market prices have escalated by 2,000% (or more) on some STAR WARS titles, ever since Disney began announcing that they were including even more comics continuity into their LucasFilms streaming products. The same is true with some Marvel, Image, and DC titles, with speculators oftentimes paying us our full website list prices, and then flipping those high demand issues within weeks for a tidy profit. Prices are truly escalating that rapidly right now...

What I think is important to note is that none of this would be possible with true scarcity. Our 50+ Mile High Comics STAR WARS (2015) variants, for example, had Marvel’s absolute minimum print run of 3,000 copies each. That’s all that we could afford to print at the time, and many of those were then originally offered by us for prices ranging from $9.95-$19.95, just to help to cover some of our original investment. Our remaining copies are now selling briskly for much more, with one investor purchasing ten NM copies of our Mile High Comics variant edition of #30 last week for a staggering $999.50. Yowza!

All of this robust demand is doing great things to heal an old rift in my marriage to my beloved wife, Nanette, as she was really rather peeved with me a few years ago, after I invested over $500,000.00 (!) of our company working capital to pay for printing 50+ of our own STAR WARS (2015) variant editions (at $9,000 each), as well as 300-500 copies each of the other STAR WARS variant editions that Marvel offered (all of which also had tiny print runs) during the heyday following their recapturing the license from Dark Horse Comics.

STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC #9

Making matters even more stressful for her (Nanette pays our company bills...), I also invested tens of thousands into the STAR WARS comics and books published by Dark Horse, after they put up a huge liquidation sale as their license expired. We really could not afford all of the comics and books that I purchased from Dark Horse, but my belief is that you only get one chance in a lifetime to buy STAR WARS publications at steep discount, so I bet our financial limit (and then some). That is now looking like one of my best decisions, ever!

I could go on and on about other titles that are on fire right now, but I will simply leave you with the advice that you should research all variant editions issued by Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Image over the past ten years. A goodly proportion of those variants had print runs under 5,000 copies, and some (from Image and smaller Independents) were as few as 1,000 copies. All it takes is one streaming announcement (or even just a rumor) and demand for those very low print run comics immediately explodes. With very few copies being offered for sale, those variants can easily become more precious than gold, literally overnight. Just saying...

STAR WARS (2015) #42 MILE HIGH EXCLUSIVE

As regards our Mile High Comics STAR WARS variant editions, I am going to leave them at our current prices until this upcoming Friday at noon, and then we are going to readjust upward based upon an evaluation of current demand, and our shrinking supply. This long-awaited redemption makes me very happy, as at long last, I am going to be able to repay Nanette for all the stress I put her through when she had to pay all of my dreadful STAR WARS printing bills.

Happy collecting!

P.S. Our codeword (through Christmas) will return to being 40% off DECEMBER! I may be able to offer you a slightly higher discount (with a new codeword) after Christmas, but that is debatable at this point as we still do not have enough manpower to handle the surge in demand that we are presently experiencing. The 40% off DECEMBER! codeword applies to all ten million+ of our back issues, excluding only new issues, a few variants (including our own), and our professionally-graded issues. Please do enjoy this great 40% off codeword sale with our sincere thanks for your continuing support of our family enterprise.
