BLACKFRIDAY! Deals Begin Howdy! Happy Monday, and welcome to November! Truth be told, this is just about my least favorite month of the year, as I thrive on sunlight and blissfully long days. I do, however, work really hard to keep a positive outlook as the days grow shorter, throwing myself into my indoor activities with a determined enthusiasm. As a case in point, I will switching my daily efforts from focusing entirely on my (seemingly endless) farm maintenance work, instead spending those many hours sorting and and shelving all of the great comics and books that I accumulated over this past summer. I have especially bright lighting installed inside my personal comics vault, so that added illumination will help me a great deal in keeping my moods cheerful. Chuck with his granddaughter Felicity As regards Mile High Comics, the beginning of November used to be a period of relative quiet for us, as we waited patiently for the holiday shopping frenzy to begin in early December. Commencing a couple of decades ago, however, the larger “Big Box” retailers began hosting their immense Black Friday promotions, which triggered a trend toward much earlier holiday shopping. That trend has now morphed even further forward in the month, with the online giants now pushing thousands of deals at people, starting all the way at the very beginning of November. Family-owned retailers, like Mile High Comics, ignore these trends at our own peril, as the big guys could care not one whit as to whether we live, or die. Long story short, I have decided to begin offering special deals in each of my newsletters. Today’s deal may backfire on me, as I most certainly do not want to sell out of all of our remaining copies of ULTIMATE FALLOUT #4, featuring the first appearance of Miles Morales, but I feel that I have no choice but to start off November with a powerful first offering. Aman recently negotiated the purchase by FANEXPO of our local event formerly known as the Denver Comic-Con, which had (sadly) almost entirely eliminated comic books (and comic book retailers) before Covid shut them down. Aman and Peter promised me that they intend to bring a renewed focus on comic books and comics creators to their event, and I am eager to help them to achieve their goal. Nothing is yet set in stone, but this weekend’s initial FANEXPO DENVER event went very well, so I believe that you can expect some fun announcements coming from us, beginning in the early part of next year.
