Free Comic Book Storage Bins

Howdy!

I am chilling in my upstairs office at Mile High Comics today. I am typically a pretty hyper Type-A individual, but truthfully I have already set into motion all that I can toward our #1 winter priority of adding 50 more glass showcases into our Jason St. Mega-Store. After an all-hands-on-deck meeting earlier this week our huge trash dumpster is now full of discards (with more identified for disposal next week), and the street area outside of our Mega-Store (where we leave free stuff for pickers) is also being fully utilized. That being the case, the best thing that I can do right now is to just leave our hard-working team alone, to simply do their jobs.

Chuck in his Gallery upstairs

The good news is that my lack of interference is allowing everyone here at Mile High Comics to concentrate on making our store (and online inventory) better each day. The number of collections being offered to us has slowed down a bit this week (it's been rainy...), so Will and Pam have actually had time to catch up a bit on grading/entering some of our previous back issue comics and magazines acquisitions. They are still (of course) hopelessly far behind, but at least progress is being made. The list at the end of today's newsletter reflects some of their progress.

As regards the potential that I mentioned earlier this week for our summer-long drought to finally abate, that blessing has indeed manifested. Over the past 48 hours we have received over 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) of desperately-needed moisture at my farm in Boulder. That is not enough rain to bring us back up to any sort of norm, but at least this one-time soaking gives our trees and perennials a better chance of surviving this winter. Yay!

Chuck at September's auction

In other news, we have another of our awesome no-minimum-bid comics and toys auctions scheduled for on the 24th (a week from Saturday). Will Moulton and Chris Boyd are putting that auction together right now, and should have at least the initial flyer prepared by tomorrow. If we are lucky, they will have a full list to send out to everyone by this weekend. Participating in our auctions without actually being here for the live event may seem unimportant, but Pam has been winning a surprising number of lots for her absentee bidders of late. I'll mention Pam again in Monday's newsletter (and provide her contact info), once we have all seen the auction lots.

On a related note, I am finding some quite interesting collectibles in our back storage area that do not really fit into any of the product categories reflected in our existing showcase displays. We absolutely do need to raise some extra cash to fund our impending showcase purchase, so I am going to sacrifice some of those unlisted items in next Saturday's auction. I'll try to have some photos of these extra items to show you next week.

SPIDER-MAN (1963) (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) (#1-441) #301

I'll close today by quickly mentioning that our 60% off FALLSAVINGS! codeword sale on all of our back issue comics and magazines remains in effect for you through this upcoming weekend. Only new issues, a few variants and restored comics, and our professionally-graded items are exempt. With the days growing shorter and the weather finally turning a bit cooler, this is the time of year when I return to working on my own collections. Just saying...

Happy collecting!

Gigantic wooden magazine racks

P.S. I have about a dozen gigantic wooden magazine racks available for free (we use similar ones to hold our trade paperbacks and hardbacks), along with about 60 metal lateral file cabinets that have been modified to hold short boxes filled with comics. We used these metal bins at San Diego Comic-Con for several years with great success, but they simply do not have an application in our Mega-Store. If you live nearby and have an interest in taking some of these lateral files home to help you store your personal collection, feel free to stop by any weekday and talk with Will Moulton. Please (!) do not ask about them during weekends, however, as our store is just too crazy busy on Saturday's and Sunday's for our staff to help you.
