Auction This Saturday - Chuck Needs $10,000, Stat
Howdy!
Life is exceptionally busy for us right now here at
Mile High Comics,
as we begin to prepare
our Mega-Store
for our always-important annual holiday season. Thanksgiving is still six weeks away, but we are already restocking our
shelves from the reserve inventory that we stashed away during our comics and toys collection-buying bacchanal of this
past summer. Our awesome store manager, David Saindon, has also placed a massive order for us for both new and backlist
trade paperbacks and hardback collections,
so by the time turkey day arrives, our graphic novel shelves should be filled to overflowing.

Trade shelves and Help Desk in Mega-Store
My own task during this endeavor is to (once again...) drive my van out to Los Angeles to see what I might be able to
find to fill in the ever-present holes in our vast Manga and Anime selections from the hundreds of small vendors who operate
in the vast confines of the world-famous Los Angeles Toy District. Inexpensive plush toys (and other stocking stuffers)
sell exceptionally well for us at Christmas, so they are of the highest priority on my list.
After our stocking stuffers deficiency is covered, I will do my best to scrounge up a truckload of other cool imported
items for our Christmas season. If I sound a bit dubious as to my chances for success, do bear in mind that the steep
decline in imported toy products due to the recently-enacted tariffs on Chinese (and other East Asian) manufactured goods
has created shortages of darn near every toy product category that is typically available at the toy market. Our suppliers
are incredibly adroit at getting all manner of cool stuff through the nightmare of our West Coast Customs labyrinth, but
these are exceptionally fraught days for any Pacific Rim importer. Wish me luck....

Our 2nd Manga Island inside the Mega-Store
Also, just so you know, my next toys-buying trip to LA will begin on October 29th, which is in a mere 21 days. What makes
that timing especially difficult for me is that I that only allows me a scant three weeks during which to raise the minimum
of $10,000 in uncommitted cash flow that I need to cost-justify a round trip drive of 2,000 miles. Simply put, the Toy
District is a rough-and-tumble Pacific Rim marketplace where (if you're lucky, and if they like you...) you can buy darn
near anything, but only if you have cash in hand. No one offers credit terms, consignments are out of the question, and
only after they really begin to trust you will they even deign to accept your company check.
We are blessed to have earned check privileges with several of our larger Manga and Anime suppliers, but for all of the
hundreds of little guys in the LA market (who oftentimes stock the coolest stuff...), only cash will suffice. That is why,
in a nutshell, that we are conducting one of our fun
no-minimum-bid comics and toys auctions
this Saturday, regardless of the outcome. I need that money to help fund my LA buying trip.

That having been said, I want you to know in advance that October is typically one of our slowest times of year, so our
expectations for the funds that we might be able to generate from this
Saturday's auction
are quite low. That matters not in the least to us, however, as those items that we are letting go on Saturday for no
minimum bid are extras from collections that we just purchased that are redundant to other copies that we already have
in stock. I need to quickly raise money for LA, so the harsh reality is that they are going to sell for whatever we can get.
With that thought in mind, I have asked our General Manager, Will Moulton, to include a photo listing (below) of all of our upcoming
auction lots for you in today's newsletter. If you see any items in the auction that would be beneficial for your collection,
contact Pam Brandle: Pamb@milehighcomics.com or phone 303-455-2659 Monday-Friday 9-4) to give her a prebid. Pam
clerks our auctions, and also acts as a proxy bidder for all who cannot attend in person. Pam will then bid for you, and
if you win, we will ship your item (or items) to you at exact cost. There is never any charge to participate in our auctions,
nor any obligation to buy anything. On the flip side, however, our auction is potentially a great way for you to score some
highly-desirable comics, for mere pennies on the dollar. 'Nuff said.

Moving on to a closely-related topic, we have already been receiving a flood of 70% off HALLOWEEN! codeword orders
from the new steep-discount sale that I announced on Monday. I thank each and everyone who has already ordered, as a percentage
of the money that you spent with us will also be stashed away for my LA trip. Above all else, I am truly grateful to Will
Moulton for convincing me to start the 70% off HALLOWEEN! codeword earlier than originally planned. Thanks to Will's
prescient decision (and powers of persuasion), it looks like reaching my $10,000 goal will now be relatively easy by
October 29th.
Happy collecting!
