$50,000.00 From The Bargain Bins Howdy! I finally made it in to Jason St. this afternoon, after a day filled with fall preparations at my farm in Boulder, as our weather is scheduled to take a little dip tomorrow, but nothing all that drastic (yet). So why am I hustling so hard to get everything done? Because our winter in Boulder set in very early last year, with the end of October being quite chill, and nasty westerly winds blowing almost every day throughout November and December. I can handle being out in the cold just fine, but those damn winds make my eyes tear up and burn to the point where I cannot see. That makes operating power equipment (my industrial weed cutters and chain saws) really hazardous. Chuck's farm Anyhoo, my coming in this afternoon is very important (anyway), as we absolutely need a further infusion of fresh comics for our in-store "bargain bins." You would not think that area of the store would be all the important, but my curiosity got the better of me on Saturday, so I checked our "bargain bins" sales totals from this past year. Our sales from that area of the store are really never all that much during any given day, but it turns out that the combined yearly total is right about $50,000.00. Yow! I definitely need to get my butters in gear, and get to sorting some more comics. Chuck adding to the bargain bins The good news is that my selection process for the bargain bins is getting easier and easier, as Will and Pam are making incredible progress in filling in all of the lower grades on our website listings with "intentional downgrades." Once all of those lower grades are filled in on comics listing for $50 (or less) in NM, the rest are then consigned into the bargain bins, regardless of grade. Really. That is my sorting criteria, and that is precisely what I am doing this afternoon. With any luck, I will locate another 500 highly-desirable back issues for inclusion the bargain bins. Chuck sorting comics That having been said, it should come as no surprise that I am actually looking forward to the colder weather shutting down my farm activities, and thus allowing me vastly more time for drinking hot coffee and sorting through huge piles of comic book long boxes with my awesome dog, Nicky, at my feet. I do absolutely love being out on my farm, but there comes a time of year when I really start Jonesing to get back to my sorting. Even after 53 years, I do still very much love going through comic book long boxes search for hidden treasures. Comics are fun! Nicky guarding my pumpkins Well, that's it for today. Nicky wants me to let her go outside, and then I'm going to start in on another box of comics from that 20,000+ back issues collection that I purchased in Albuquerque two weeks ago. That deal is splitting about 50-50 between issues that we need, and bargain books and downgrades, so it is definitely worth every minute that I can devote to sorting through them.
