70% Off Sale Ending In Ten Days

Howdy!

I am in a great mood this afternoon, despite just receiving a beautiful $1,000+ piece of Pueblo pottery that ended up being broken all to heck because of ridiculously poor packing on the part of the seller. Sadly, this piece was 16' tall, which ranks it among the largest (if not the very largest) figure ever made by my dear friend, Martha Aquero, of Cochiti Pueblo. As the pundits say, however, there is no use sitting around crying over spilt milk. What's done, is done. Sigh.

Offsetting my pottery loss is something far more important, which is that our General Manager, Will Moulton, made our electronic deposit today of our annual property taxes on our Jason St. Mega-Store. I have heard from a few folks who have been a bit dubious when I have written about the staggering amount that we owe each year, so I am including a copy of the receipt for you to see for yourself. Do bear in mind, however, that we had already paid the $9,200.00 that was billed for our Mega-Store parking lot, which is deeded separately.

Property Tax Payment

Truthfully, I am soooo happy (happy!) that this dreadful tax obligation is off our backs for another year. We have no other pressing or past due monthly obligations (and zero in the way of bank debt), so paying this off means that we have clear sailing for the rest of 2025. Yahoo!

All of the previous having been said, it is important to note that we are now entering into our slowest time of year. Sales start dropping off for us as back-to-school begins, and really plummet as the days get shorter. Our Jason St. Mega-Store is a truly awesome 65,000 square foot building, but our industrial neighborhood is simply not welcoming after it turns dark. We already are running new wiring to light up the inside of our store even better going into the upcoming darkest time of year, and will next seek to also enhance the lighting on our store's exterior, and maybe even the parking lot. We can't change the changing of the seasons, but we can add more lighting try to offset the worst of the negative impacts.

On a related note, the one part of our business that does not drop off going into the fall is our buying of collections. The fall rush for this year has already begun, with people now showing up pretty much every hour on weekdays with carloads of comics, statues, graphic novels, and pop figures that they wish for us to purchase. In a nutshell, that is where all our money goes, as aside from my pottery purchases, I take nothing out of the store. Truthfully, I much prefer that we reinvest every dime that we can into even more cool collectibles, and thus make our Mega-Store even more wonderful for our visitors. That is why I have entrusted Will and Pam with such free rein to buy whatever might walk in the door. We (obviously) cannot afford to pay too much for collections, but if any seller is being reasonable in their expectations, Will and Pam have my benediction to go ahead and make the purchase.

On a side note, I am quite proud of the fact that, in the 14 years that our Jason St. Mega-Store has been open, that we have never once stopped buying. There have been moments (typically in October and early November) that so many collections have arrived simultaneously that we have had to ask sellers to hold our check for a day, maybe two, before depositing it in their bank. That has been the only restriction in an otherwise unblemished record. In the meantime, we have helped (quite literally) thousands of people over the years with covering their rent, car payments, tuition, power bills, and moving expenses. I am very proud of the services (both in buying and in selling) that we provide here at Mile High Comics. It is my heartfelt belief that all of us should aspire to be a positive force in our world, and I believe that our incredibly dedicated team here at Mile High Comics does an exemplary job in fulfilling that goal. More than any other reason, that is why I am so happy today.

I have to stop writing now, as Will needs time to format this newsletter for mailing before our 6 PM closing time rolls around. I did want to leave you with a quick reminder, however, that fewer than ten days now remains for you to take advantage of our 70% off TAXES! codeword sale on all ten million+ of our back issue comics and magazines. Only new issues, a few variants and restored comics, and our professionally-graded items are exempt. With our taxes for this year now completely paid, we have no pressing reason to extend the TAXES! codeword, so it will end promptly as originally planned, a week from Tuesday morning. 'Nuff said.
