Mega-Store Comics And Toys Auction This Saturday

Howdy!

I'm back at work at Mile High Comics this morning after a somewhat fretful Sunday evening. Simply put, I worked my butters off all day on Friday, and then six hours on Saturday, packing up that huge Disney collection that Will mentioned in Friday's newsletter. I then weed-whacked at my farm on Sunday morning, only stopping after three hot hours when my (broken) forearm began twinging in pain, and I simultaneously felt the onset of total exhaustion.

Truthfully that was far too much work for me to be doing at this stage in my recovery from my April 15th cargo van accident. According to my surgeon, a full cast on my broken forearm is still recommended (I took mine off three weeks ago) and given that I suffered my second major concussion during my accident in just a year's span of time, I am not supposed to be exerting myself at all, but most especially when it is above 90+ degrees Fahrenheit. Well, I broke all those rules this weekend, and for a while last night I thought that I might have caused some permanent damage. Blessedly, however, I woke up this morning feeling much better, so it appears that I have dodged the proverbial bullet (again). Whew!

Now, before those of you who are rational start trying to advise me to take it easy, please, please, please (!) save your breath. I am already well aware of what I should be doing. The entire point is that I choose not to heed that sage advice, and to instead keep barreling forward as though I am going to live forever. That may sound unwise, but consider for a moment that a mere 50 years ago today that I was sleeping every night on top of my comic book boxes in the back seat of a borrowed 1963 Chevrolet Impala. I was driving coast-to-coast the entire summer of 1974 in order to exhibit at comic book shows, often times heading out with no return gas money, and a couple of times without even any money for food. Were I to have been rational back then, I sure as heck would not have voluntarily relinquished my full scholarship to college in order to become a poverty-striken itinerate comic book hustler. But, I did walk away from my scholarship, and here we are fifty years later. Sometimes, taking crazy risks pays off.

Anyhoo, after my forearm stopped throbbing last night I got a decent night's sleep, and made it in to Jason St. early this morning to unload Saturday's vanload of Disney ceramics. Pam and Lisa are both pricing those Disney collecibles today, with the goal being to have them all ready to offer for us to offer for sale by this upcoming Saturday morning. That's when our first no-minimum-bid comics and toys auction in nearly four months will take place, beginning at 11:30 AM. I will be taking Friday as a rest/recovery day, so I think that I should be able to conduct that 2-hour auction with minimal distress.

Truth be told, what has me far more concerned than my health/stamina is that Will Moulton picked out $41,000 in slabbed comics for Saturday's auction, none of which will have any protective reserves. Pam has already received about a dozen pre-bids for selected items, but that's a drop in the bucket as compared with the hundreds of slabbed comics (and rare toys) that we will be offering without reserve. If you would like to join the auction from afar by leaving a pre-bid with Pam, call her this week at 403-455-2659, or write to her via Pamb@milehighcomics.com It is shocking sometimes just how often Pam wins for people who take the time to place lowball bids with her. Just saying...

My only other news item for today is a quick reminder that our 60% off SUMMER! codeword sale remains in effect for you on all ten million+ of our our back issue comics and magazines that we have listed on our website. Only new issues, a few variants and restored comics, and our professionally-graded items are exempt.

Happy collecting!
