Howdy! A week from this Saturday (May 6th) is the date of this year's incredibly popular Free Comic Book Day celebration. We now have well over twenty thousand copies of this year's 45 different limited edition FCBD variants in stock and ready to go, and plan to have our doors opening an hour early on May 6th (9 AM) in order to accommodate what we expect to be a huge crowd. Our last in-store FCBD giveaway (2019) attracted a record-setting 5,000+ people to visit our Jason St. Mega-Store, and we think that this year's turnout might possibly end up being even be larger. Whew!
As regards the ground rules for this year's event, it is pretty much the same as the last few events. Everyone attending may choose any three of this year's FCBD variants at absolutely no charge, just so long as they are three different issues.
We will also provide the opportunity to obtain additional individual copies of the 2023 FCBD issues for a $2 donation per item, 100% of which will benefit Casa de Luz, a safe house that we support in Tijuana for LGBTQ migrants seeking asylum. Most of the people seeking refuge at Vasa de Luz are from countries that have severe sanctions (possibly including the death penalty) for being Gay or Transgender, and they need a safe place to stay in Mexico while their applications for asylum are being processed. The safe house currently has no funding for heat and/or hot water, so we are trying through our FCBD promotion this year to help them in meeting this critical need. Any help that you might be willing to provide would be greatly appreciated.
A couple more quick notes: first, those seeking complete sets of all 45 of this year's FCBD variants should NOT wait until the day of the event to request their set. We only ordered enough copies to build 100 sets this year, and after my newsletter on Wednesday, 65 of those sets are already committed to our online clients who are located around the world. We expect to be fully committed by Monday (at the latest...), so we strongly encourage you to reserve your set immediately, either through our website, or through our Jason St. Mega-Store. Sets are $125.
Second, to offset the typical slowdown in sales that occurs for us each year on the weekend before FCBD, I have decided to provide everyone who shops in Jason St. with a very rare storewide 20% off opportunity. These 20% off savings apply (only) to everything in our immense Mega-Store, excluding only supplies and new comics. Truthfully, this pre-FCBD sale is quite exceptional, as even those items that we never discount, such as Funko Pop! figures, CGC's, statues, and even our blue-label comics can be purchased over this special weekend (ONLY!) for a mere 80% of list. There is no minimum (or maximum) that you can spend over this weekend, but it is imperative that you note that this amazingly generous pre-FCBD opportunity needs to end promptly when we close our Mega-Store on Sunday, April 30th, at 5 PM.
