Kamikazi attacks started during the U.S. invasion of the Phillipines and reached its ferocious climax during the epic battle of Okinawa. Thousands of Japanese pilots met their fiery end by crashing their bomb-laden planes into American ships in a desperate last-ditch effort to stem the onslaught of American military might bearing down on the sacred Japanese home islands.
