Howdy! The big news for today is that we finally have received all 48 of this year's 2020 Free Comic Book Day variants. This is significant because we were in doubt that they would all arrive, given the vagaries and uncertainties of today's comics retailing world. In point of fact, four issues actually were cancelled, but Diamond managed to dribble out the rest over the course of the summer.
This truncated distribution of the 2020 FCBD variants has really been a mess, as most stores have given them out piecemeal, as they arrived. This random distribution has resulted in shortages of some issues, and excess stock on others. It has also made building complete sets of all 48 issues damn near impossible, if for no other reason than the fact that very few stores ordered all 48. Truly it made no sense to do so, with no single date drawing in vast numbers of people, or generating intense enthusiasm.
Here at Mile High Comics, we have felt the sting of losing FCBD, as that first Saturday in May has traditionally been our single busiest day of the year. It has also been the single day when we raised the most for charity, mostly through the sale in the store of complete sets. Given that we were shut down on that date, that simply could not happen this year, which made me profoundly sad.
In any event, we now have enough FCBD editions in stock to build 100 complete sets (1/4th of our original order...) Sets are $79.95 this year, and include all 48 official editions, plus we are including two random copies of our exclusive Mile High Comics variant editions, including at least one MHC STAR WARS variant. Shipping is additional on these sets (always), and costs $15 in the USA, and $30 International.
So you know, 50% of the revenue received from our sets this year will go to my wife, Nanette, to help her to cover our cost of purchasing all of those FCBD editions from Diamond, with the other 50% going to fund purchases of warm hats, gloves, socks, and hygiene supplies for the poor. This is not going to be as successful as past years, but it is still a win-win for everyone. Thank you for your support.
That's it for today. I need to help Will Moulton now with receiving the huge shipment of 20,000+ Marvel Comics trade paperbacks and hardbacks that just arrived by truck from Diamond. These Marvel books are all going out of print, so we took advantage of this one last opportunity to stock up before they are gone, forever.
