50th Anniversary Party This Weekend!
Howdy!
I spent my morning at the awesome
Food Bank of the Rockies,
helping the volunteers of
"Feeding Denver's Hungry"
to collect 10,000+ lbs of food to distribute tomorrow to well over 1,000 of Denver's elderly,
disabled, and economically disadvantaged citizens. This is a task that I undertake quite willingly,
as I was myself homeless and hungry during a period of my youth, so I know quite well what it
feels like to be hungry, and alone. I may be a corporate executive today, but I know from first
hand experience what it is like to sleep under an Interstate bridge in the rain, and in a homeless
shelter. Life is sometimes incredibly hard, and I think that it is beholden upon all of us to
do what we can to help those who are in need.

While my mission this morning was definitely a positive one, it still put me far behind in preparing
for this Saturday's 50th anniversary party that will celebrate the earliest beginnings of
Mile High Comics.
It was on the first Saturday of March, 1970 that I sold my first back issue comics in a public
venue to someone who was a total stranger. Prior to that momentous day I had made a few sales
to classmates of mine at my school in Frankfurt, Germany, but those were just a warmup to the
real deal. When Bob Conway walked up to my little stand at the Colorado Springs Antiques Fair
on that winter's morning, all my research into back issue comics prices (and scarcity) and my
training as a salesperson suddenly bore fruit. It was such a wonderful feeling as to be
indescribable!
Bob Conway
Fast-forward 50 years, and Bob Conway and I are still good friends. We have grown old together,
blessed to have been able to share the joys and excitements of an entire lifetime of comics fandom.
We both married, got jobs, and parented children. But, all the while, we kept our closets filled
with four color treasures that comforted us during those inevitable dark moments that intrude
upon everyone's life. Truth be told, I would not trade my journey for any other, and it has been
an honor to have Bob there at the beginning with me, and to still be able to share moments and
memories with him. I wish upon everyone reading this newsletter that you have such wonderful
blessings in your life, as I have had in mine. Love is love...
Poker Flyer
I will close today's newsletter by asking everyone who can to join us in celebrating on Saturday
morning. It will mostly be an
auction/
poker day,
but with cake, an appearance by Bob Conway, and probably a few tears. My awesome friends from Santa Fe,
Diego and Cara Romero will be in town, and will help me in providing a tour of my Pueblo Indian
pottery gallery from 2:00-3:00 PM for all who are interested. Diego is a world-renowned potter from
Cochiti Pueblo,
and Cara is taking the Indian art world by storm with her incredibly evocative
photographs. She earned the prestigious "Best of Show" award from among 1,400 artists exhibiting
their works at the prestigious Santa Fe Indian Market two years ago, which is as good as it gets.
They are also incredibly kind and fun people, so getting to meet them in person on Saturday is
truly a treat.

My only other bit of news is a quick reminder that our ongoing SPRING! codeword sale still allows
you to purchase almost all of our ten million+
back issue comics
listed on
our website
for 50% off of list price. Only new issues, a few variants, and our professionally-graded comics
are excluded. Please enjoy these awesome savings with our sincere thanks and appreciation for
your continuing support of
our family-owned company.
Cambridge with a Mystery Box
That's it for today. I now need to go sort some more really nice comics for our new
5 lb mystery box
program. We have sold over 1,000 lbs of those
mystery comics
in just 7 days...
Happy collecting!
