X-MEN (1963) (#1-113, UNCANNY X-MEN #114-544) (MARVEL) #123 - Plot Synopsis
X-Men (1963) #123
Guest-starring Spider-Man. "Listen...Stop Me if You've Heard It...But This One Will Kill You!" is written by Chris Claremont with art by John Byrne and Terry Austin. Travel back to the days when you had to go out to an arcade to play a decent video game. And visit Marvel's New York City, where all the super-heroes knew each other and looked out for each other's best interests. Witness one web-slinging wonder who comes upon Scott (Cyclops) Summers escorting his date, the lovely Colleen Wing (one half of a private detective agency that helps Iron Fist), while they are out on the town. Niceties are exchanged but if Spider-Man had arrived a few minutes later he could have helped them fend off the murderous machinations of the madman named Arcade who takes them captive!
Nightcrawler, Colossus, Banshee, Wolverine and Storm are similarly captured by the high-scoring hitman. Thrown into a gigantic pinball machine called Murder World, our mutant heroes are tossed about by enormous flippers and bumpers before being dumped into separate nightmare chambers designed with their minds in mind. Cyclops faces being crushed to death or guessing which one of three exit doors won't blow up in his face. Colossus is interrogated by a Soviet KGB agent about his defection. Wolverine battles funhouse mirror versions of himself. Nightcrawler must outpace buzzsaw-wielding bumper cars. Banshee is buzz-bombed by miniature German Stukas. And Storm is caught in a watery weather chamber that reflects her power back on herself. But nothing couldprepare the X-Men for the cruelest peril of all; the betrayal of a trusted friend!
