Spider-Man (1963) #103
Guest-starring Ka-Zar, Lord of the Savage Land and Zabu, the Sabre-tooth. "Walk the Savage Land!" is written by Roy Thomas with art by Gil Kane and Frank Giacoia. Frightened by the growing competition for advertising dollars that television poses for the Daily Bugle, publisher J. J. Jonah Jameson hits upon the idea for an exclusive that'll have readers clamoring for more and advertisers lining up with their checkbooks. The Daily Bugle will sponsor an expedition to the Savage Land, that throwback region where dinosaurs roam in the middle of frozen Antarctica. There, the paper will seek to verify or debunk the stories of a gigantic armored lizard-man roaming the Savage Land's jungles.
Recruiting Peter Parker as his photographer and the beautiful Gwen Stacy as eye candy for several pictorials of the lush paradise, J.J. comes along himself to round out the expedition party. As the New Yorkers fly into the wilderness, trouble begins almost immediately as their helicopter narrowly avoids a mid-air collision with a frightened pterodactyl. But soon the group sets down and Peter starts snapping shots of Gwen in a tiny bikini graciously provided by the Daily Bugle. Their reverie is short-lived, however, as group of man-apes attack and drive them toward a serpentine temple in the jungle. That menace is superceded by an even greater threat as the legendary giant lizard-man named Gog arrives to snatch up Gwen. Pulling the man-monster's strings is none other than Kraven the Hunter who seeks to make the young woman his queen and the Savage Land his new kingdom. Enter Spider-Man and Ka-Zar to save the maiden and the day!
