Peter Parker (1976) #202
"Maximum Carnage" Part 9 of 14, "The Turning Point" is written by J.M. DeMatteis and drawn by Sal Buscema. Guest-starring Venom, Morbius, Cloak (of Cloak and Dagger), the Black Cat and Firestar. Sometimes, they say, to combat evil you have to become evil. Or so Venom believes as he leads Spidey and the rest of our heroes on a bloody charge to try to stop a murderous crew that includes Carnage, Shriek, Demogoblin, Carrion and the Doppleganger. In the middle of the night, amid the tranquility of New York's Prospect Park, the heroism and spirit of champions is tested in no-holds barred combat!
As Mary Jane waits at home anxious with fear over how her beloved Peter is faring, Spider-Man is less worried about his physical well-being than his about his soul. Cloak, Morbius and Blackcat skirt the line between right and wrong with a lot more ease and much less of a conscience than Spider-Man. So Firestar can't help but be shocked when she sees her old friend Spidey beginning to adopt the tactics of his enemies. Finally, Peter's "better angels" win out and he takes mercy on Carnage who is on the brink of death. And that doesn't sit too well with Carnage's sworn arch-nemesis Venom! Can the sudden appearance of Captain America restore a sense of honor to this conflict?
