JLA (1996) #97
"Interlude on the Last Day of the World! – The Tenth Circle Part Four" is written by Chris Claremont with art by John Byrne and Jerry Ordway. Guest-starring the new Doom Patrol. Crucifer and the vampiric Tenth Circle throws down the gauntlet to the JLA. Wonder Woman's skewered and dying form is cast from the sky over the American Southwest, and is recognized as both a challenge and a ruse by the Batman, Martian Manhunter, the Flash and Green Lantern. With Superman enthralled by Crucifer, the team has lost their two most powerful members but Batman's amazing detective abilities leads the JLA to the secret lair of the new Doom Patrol; potential new allies (unless the two teams destroy each other that is!).
Meanwhile, Crucifer makes his move to create a new beach-head on Earth for the Tenth Circle. In western Canada, he unleashes his forces to take over the sleepy town of Barnes, Saskatchewan and marks the ground with a gigantic fiery X; the Roman numeral for 10. How is the ancient cult of undead killers linked to the subatomic world the Atom now finds himself in? The strange, insect-like creatures who dwell there worship him as a god, just as they worshiped an earlier visitor from the world above. Was that earlier "god" Crucifer himself? Finally, don't count out the long-missing Manitou Raven. The shaman may hold the key to freeing the Man of Steel from his magical spell but he'll need the help of the young meta-human girl named Nudge, her apelike companion Grunt and the mysterious Vortex.
