Iron Man #222
Tony Stark's double life as playboy industrial and armored Avenger frequently leads to conflicting schedules. Case in point, our story here. "The Party," written by David Michelinie and Bob Layton and drawn by Mark Bright and Layton, starts with Iron Man helping tear down old apartment buildings for the cause of urban renewal. Of course, the union foreman on site doesn't quite appreciate his help even if the workers do. A quick union membership later and the Golden Avenger is back in the clear with organized labor. However, his work is not done. As Stark, he's got a party to prepare for to introduce his friends to his new home.
In the capable hands of his personal secretary Mrs. Arbogast, Stark's affairs should be well in order. The guest list consists of the best and the brightest: actresses, financiers, celebrities, including Dr. Ruth and William "The Fridge" Perry. However, as the party is about to get started, Iron Man is called away to help deal with an jack-knifed gasoline truck stuck on a crowded mountainside highway. One crisis dealt with leads to another. A pregnant woman has to be flown to a hospital, and then there's the mud slides and a cat up a tree. By the time Tony arrives the party's over. Such is the life of a millionaire who's also a super-hero. But watch out, Stark, right around the corner comes Force, an armored foe with a contract out on Iron Man! And that confrontation won't be a party.
