Fantastic Four (1961) #92
"Ben Grimm, Killer!" is written by Stan Lee and drawn by Jack Kirby with inks by Joe Sinnott. Stan Lee was clearly inspired by two classic Star Trek episodes when writing this story arc: the gangster-themed "A Piece of the Action" and the gladiator-themed "The Gamesters of Triskelion" (both of which aired in January 1968). Ben Grimm, the ever-lovin' Thing, fights alone as a prisoner of the shape-shifting Skrulls on a distant planet remade as a replica of gangland Chicago. Highly imitative in nature, the Skrulls have drawn their inspiration from an earthman they captured years before, the mobster Machine-Gun Martin.
While Reed Richards tries desperately to get a Skrull spaceship up and running so the rest of the FF can go out in search of their friend and teammate, Ben must face a series of warm-up opponents including a Magno-Man and Rhinogon before he heads to the big arena for his title bout, a fight to the death against the reigning and undefeated champion Torgo! Unable to convince Torgo to join in him rebelling against their gangster captors and crippled by Hypno-Glow rays, will-sapping collars and brain blast ray-guns (outfitted to look like Thompson machine guns), the Thing appears to be heading inexorably toward a "kill or be killed" fate!
