Fantastic Four (1961) #351
"Strange Interlude" is written by Len Kaminski and drawn by Mark Bagley and Dan Panosian. What makes a hero a hero? And why is it that Earth, among all of the inhabited planets in the multi-verse, seems to have such a concentration of super powers? These are the questions that churn in the mind of fledgling cosmic entities Kubik and Kosmos. In order to discover the truth, they draw upon the essences of Earth's premiere super-humans, the Fantastic Four, for a bizarre experiment.
Placing Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, the Invisible Woman and the Human Torch in a maze created to test their abilities, their judgment and their intellect, Kubik and Kosmos hope to uncover if there is something special spark within human beings that makes Earth the center of cosmic power. In answer to the challenges, Mr. Fantastic becomes more aggressive, the Invisible Woman more fearless, the Human Torch more pensive and the Thing more empathetic; revealing that all human beings have a depth of capability that inhuman cosmic beings can only marvel at.
