Intellectual jealousy between Reed Richards and the Wizard boils to the surface once again as the Frightful Four once more come together to wipe out the FF. After battling for a time among the Avengers, Reed and Sue Richards become homesick for the team they left behind. While Sue thinks the FF needs more time under Ben Grimm's leadership, Reed can't help going back into the city and checking on his super-powered family.

Reed shows up and finds Johnny Storm in bad shape; his flame burning constantly as result of magical spells cast on him during Inferno. Immediately, Reed leaps into action to try to reverse Johnny's condition. Unfortunately, it's that very moment that the new Frightful Four decides to attack. The Wizard, Hydro-Man, Klaw and Titania prove to be formidable foes and soon have the Baxter Building in chaos. And in an instant, before anyone can grasp what's happening, the Thing is thrown into the machine Reed built to reverse the Human Torch's condition. Exit the Thing. Enter Ben Grimm!
