CONAN (1970) (#1-275) (CONAN THE BARBARIAN) (MARVEL) #105 - Plot Synopsis
Conan (1970) #105
"Whispering Shadows" is written by Roy Thomas and drawn by John Buscema and Ernie Chan. Based on the story "Castle of Terror" by L. Sprague De Camp and Lin Carter. Our story begins with Conan being accused by a high priest of Ajujo of bringing a curse down upon their people with whom he's dwelled for the past several weeks. Still grieving from the death of Belit, Conan has little patience for the priest's threats and so strikes him down and finds himself on the run from the entire village.
Once out in the grassy plains, his pursuers fall back but another set of predators falls in behind Conan: a pride of hungry lions. Conan's bow takes out a few of the giant cats but soon he has to run into the open desert to escape them. Miraculously, the lions stop at the desert's edge as if held back by some sort of invisible barrier. Later, the Cimmerian finds out why. An ancient castle nearby contains a spectral monster capable of taking corporeal form by feeding on nightmares. And as Conan and a hapless band of Stygian slavers find out, the vengeful spirits have no mercy for the living!
