Brave and the Bold #54
First appearance and origin of the Teen Titans! Here's how DC's premiere teen super-group started. Robin, the Boy Wonder, Kid Flash and Aqualad take on a geezer that's so "Establishment" he predates the Constitution! Get on your go-bikes all you ho-daddys! It's a fab time to start a new teen team. But first, of course, the sidekick trio have to get permission from their adult counterparts before setting off on this adventure that threatens to keep them out well past curfew.
The generation gap widens when the kids of Hatton Corners get upset that the town refuses to build them a new clubhouse. That's the start of the trouble, however, as the angry teens then get framed by Mr. Twister. He's the descendant of a 18th century eccentric who feels cheated that the town hasn't paid its bizarre rent - one pigeon feather a year -- established centuries ago. Now, armed with the weather-changing power of Native American medicine waters, he's claiming the town as his own. Robin, Kid Flash and Aqualad have to rescue the teens he's kidnapped and stop his plot while healing the rift between the teens and adults of Haddon Corners.
Teens of the early '60s stood at the brink of a social and cultural tidal wave that would change everything their post-World War II world was made of. The age barrier, hinted at here, would, in just a few short years, become as impenetrable as the Berlin Wall. But in typically optimistic fashion, the fledgling Teen Titans are able to not only bring the kids and adults of Hatton Corners back together but they manage to learn a little about tolerance themselves.
