Astonishing X-Men (2004) #14
Written by Joss Whedon and drawn by John Cassaday. The newly reformed Hellfire Club makes its move on the X-Men and sends in Emma Frost, the White Queen, as their opening gambit. The beautiful mistress of the mind enters the psyche of her lover Scott (Cyclops) Summers and forces him to confront the demons of his past. Scott has been left vulnerable by the (latest!) death of Jean Grey and the White Queen uses all of her wiles and mutant power to exploit that weakness. Assuming Jean's form and then that of the Phoenix, Emma seduces Scott and at one point, convinces him he's Wolverine as well.
These mind-games dig at the root of Cyclops' self-image and the uncontrollable optic blasts that rule his every waking moment. Emma convinces Scott that he's used his mutant power as a crutch all these years to avoid a painful self-discovery; that he offers little else to the world. The end-result is Scott's mind is paralyzed, leaving the X-Men leaderless when the rest of the Hellfire Club moves in. And as Kitty Pryde and Colossus consummate their long-postponed passions, they are blissfully unaware as Casandra Nova creeps up on an unsuspecting Hank (Beast) McCoy.
