ASTONISHING X-MEN (2004) (#1-68) (MARVEL)(JOSS WHENDON) #12 VARIANT - Plot Synopsis
Astonishing X-Men (2004) #12
Written by Joss Whedon with art by John Cassaday. The sentient A.I. creation simply called Danger has taken its former mission of training the X-Men (as part of the Danger Room) to the extreme and now is trying to wipe them all out. On the desolate island-graveyard of Genosha, Danger uses its control over all things mechanical to re-activate a Sentinel and sends it into battle against our mutant heroes. Some quick thinking on the part of Shadowcat saves the day temporarily but the X-Men are in the for the fight of their lives. And in the middle of it all, Emma Frost decides to walk away, abandoning her teammates!
In a variation of the Fastball Special, Colossus throws Kitty Pryde into the guts of the Sentinel flying overhead and she uses her phasing power and computer skills to override Danger's control, re-opening memory files in the robot that cause it to have a crisis of conscience. It leaves the island in order to get time alone to think about the millions of lives it wiped out on Genosha. And without any further weapons, Danger is swiftly stomped out. But now the X-Men want to know: when did Prof. X realize the Danger Room was sentient and how could he treat it so cruelly?
