Plot Synopsis: Spider-Man (1963) #31
First appearance of Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn and Prof. Warren. "If This Be My Destiny" is written by Stan Lee with art by Steve Ditko. Inspired by James Bond's scuba spy adventure Thunderball, this story of underwater crime in New York's harbor builds a web of mystery for our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to unravel. Strangely garbed and heavily armed mercenaries start off stealing radioactive devices via helicopter and then switch to high tech scuba gear. Spidey's first run-in with them ends in stalemate even as the thieves succeed in delivering their swag to the mysterious Master Planner at his hidden, sub-aquatic lair.

Meanwhile, Peter Parker begins his first week at Empire State University as a freshman science major. But even though he's surrounded by the people who later would mean so much to him namely Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn he can think of only one thing Aunt May's rapidly failing health. Will Peter's kindly old aunt last the week after her latest spell? Will Spider-Man and intrepid Daily Bugle reporter Foswell uncover the Master Planner's plot before his nefarious plan is hatched? This is some of Ditko's best Silver Age work on display!
